Hours of work:
From 12 hours per month up to, 24 hours per month depending on activities.
Rate of pay: £12 per hour.
Introduction:
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme.
The service user is a young man (13 years old).
A fun loving proactive, personal assistant with a good sense of humour and the ability to enjoy a practical joke is required.
To offer support and assist a partially sighted young man who can be a bit of a prankster, to get the very best out of independence.
The aim of the direct payment is to help to build his confidence and “explore” his local area, using public transport where possible, to visit places of interest without relying on his family, therefore promoting his independence.
The client has a range of interests including playing and discussing PC and VCR games, football, and rugby, being a massive Harry potter fan, Lego, and history/visiting old buildings.
Main tasks/activities
• To provide companionship and informal guidance and mentoring
• Assist by verbal explanation things happening in the immediate surroundings that may be missed
• To engage in conversation and encourage activities for socialisation, assist him in engaging in sports such as Rugby etc.
• To always ensure the health and safety of the individual and remind client to take medication
• To assist and encourage the client to get the most out of their “Adventure”
• To carry out any other reasonable requests that the service user may make from time to time

If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months.
Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
