Working within the Integrated Sensing and Protection (ISP) Line of Business, and reporting to the Vice-President of the Sensors business sector, Leonardo UK is seeking to recruit an experienced, entrepreneurial and highly capable Head of Precision Guidance to lead this critical business area.
The role will chiefly entail using functional and domain knowledge to coordinate the business in order to define and achieve a highly ambitious growth plan. The successful candidate will therefore have a demonstrable record of accomplishment in growing a business and delivering financial and customer commitments in complex stakeholder and technical domains.
Key responsibilities:
1. Define and implement the strategic vision for the business
2. Own and manage customer relationships to ensure that the product area is optimally placed to both grow and deliver, maximising near and long term venture returns
3. Own and deliver the Precision Guidance Integrated Business Plan.
4. Be accountable for delivering on the financial commitments of all business cases; driving actions to achieve product, project, business, and financial targets throughout programme execution
5. Champion the Stakeholder relationship. Build and influence internal and external stakeholders, customers, strategy partners and suppliers, using business management skills to deliver results
6. Plan, organise, direct, coordinate and control operational adherence through a team of direct project management reports, the allocated functional team and other supporting functions as required including the internal business reporting activities.
7. Advocate best project management processes and business culture ensuring execution in line with company guidelines.
8. Promote Business Area Strategy, objectives, encourage positive relationships, develop effective team working practices, people empowerment and inspire individuals
9. Lead a team of direct and indirect reports; facilitate the definition of project and team goals and objectives, ensure outline scope and resource requirements are managed and reported, and resolve conflicts within and between projects or functional areas; and provide mentoring as necessary.
10. Domain-Specific Product Management: A robust understanding of the precession guidance/complex weapons marketplace, and experience of successful product strategy definition and delivery
11. Programme Management: An advanced and comprehensive project and programme management skillset in a technical programme delivery environment. The ability to establish schedules and cost baselines, and then manage the team to deliver against them, preparing appropriate metric-based reports on an ongoing basis to demonstrate achievement against baseline and appropriate risk burn-down
12. Financial Management: A solid understanding of the financial knowledge required to run a large multi-product P&L, and to formulate, review and present complex long-term business cases
13. Engineering Management: Whilst not an engineering expert, you will have a mature and comprehensive understanding of relevant engineer process and best programme management practice and contractual significance to accompany this
14. Stakeholder Management: A superior stakeholder management skillset that understands contractual requirements balanced against the nuance of individual and group customer, user and subcontractor positions and drivers, and acts accordingly; forming relationships that drive the programme forward and ensuring clarity for all parties
15. Strategic Mindset: The ability to think, act, present data, and convey information and recommendation within a coherent industry and company strategic context
16. Communication skills: Excellent communication skills across all formats for both internal and external audiences, up to CEO level, are essential. The ability to influence internal and external teams and individuals will be critical to success in the role
17. Numerical & data skills: Must be good with words and numbers. You will need to acquire data and use it to form positions, generate buy-in and understanding and convey this in a succinct but clear manner
18. Business Winning: Understanding the Customer, Develop innovative value propositions, Identify Partnering opportunities to enhance solutions/proposals
19. Continuous Improvement: As the owner of a set of advanced programme management skills, you will be expected to add significantly to business transformation initiatives and best practice formation within the sector and line of business
