Advanced Practitioner in Ultrasound / Sonographer

Band 7, Full Time & Part Time, £46,148 to £52,809 per annum (pro rata if Part Time)
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.
The Imaging department at MKUH provides an essential service to the trust including ultrasound, CT, MRI, DEXA, mammography, as well as a general x-ray and interventional radiology service.
Due to the expansion of services, we are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic individuals for a full-time or part-time band 7 sonographer post to be based across all MKUH sites, including the acute hospital site and 2 MKUH CDC locations of Whitehouse Park & Lloyds Court. The postholder must hold at least a UK postgraduate certificate in obstetric & gynaecological ultrasound and/or general ultrasound. The post holder will work autonomously, performing high-quality imaging and issuing reports on all ultrasound examinations including obstetrics, gynaecology (including TA and TV), and abdominal as a minimum.

Main duties of the job
They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain & develop the highest standards of imaging. In return, the successful applicant will be offered a high standard of support towards their career pathway.
* To participate in the provision of Ultrasound services to Milton Keynes NHS Trust.
* To perform a range of highly specialised Ultrasound examinations.
* To independently provide a diagnostic report of the ultrasound examination for the referrer.
* To use our freedom to act as independent practitioners to refer patients and give highly specialised advice to appropriate clinicians as a result of scan findings.
* To supervise the professional training of a range of students & clinicians and ensure the highest ultrasound standards are observed and communicated.
* To manage the ultrasound workflow and ensure all data inputs are recorded accurately for both patient record integrity and statistical evaluation purposes.
* To contribute effectively to the delivery of an efficient and responsive ultrasound service, demonstrating partnership in professional development issues maintaining a high level of professional, ethical and technical standard through personal CPD.
* To participate in the Governance of the department in areas including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and audit/quality assurance activities.

Job responsibilities
* To provide an efficient Ultrasound service as authorised by the Clinical Director of Imaging requested by Hospital Consultants and GP's.
* To evaluate and prioritise, according to departmental protocol and clinical information on any ultrasound requests.
* To liaise with medical staff when ultrasound requests are equivocal.
* To analyse the clinical information and select the most appropriate scanning technique for the individual examination.
* To assess the individual communication needs of the patient and ensure advocacy is arranged e.g. interpreter present if required.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
* PgC / PgD in medical ultrasound or equivalent.
* Registration with national body.
* Training beyond qualification.
* Attended recent courses and conferences.
* Dedication to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), and practical knowledge of ultrasound safety, QA, legislation, and health and safety requirements. Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and working knowledge of PACS/RIS systems.

* Relevant experience in an ultrasound specialty in the NHS.
* Recognition of the role played by other specialties in patient healthcare.
* Experience in digital systems, PACS & RIS.
* Experience in audit and quality assurance programmes.
