DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 1. To support the quality assurance of the screen Related Activities Enter data onto the S4H (Newborn Hearing Screening Web Based System) Review individual test data and set screening outcomes from electronic downloads via SEDQ Record errors from downloads for local audits Monitor individual patient screening pathways Keep accurate records Adhere to trust policies 2. Carry out screening of babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Transitional Care Unit (TCW) & in the community. Related Activities Identify which babies require screening Liaise effectively with parents, team members and other health care professionals This requires excellent communication skills to discuss screening results and possible deafness with parents of the most vulnerable infants on the NICU & TCW on a daily basis Carry out the hearing screening of newborns within the NICU & TCW using both Automated Otoacoustic Emisisons (AOAEs) and Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) This requires high levels of manual dexterity to accurately insert earpieces into ears and attach sensors appropriately with both premature and full-term neonates. Accurately record the clinical and test data Carry out screening in the community as required (in the home and in clinics) This requires ability to carry out screening with no direct support, in a wide variety of situations with varying levels of hygiene. It also requires the ability to manage family situations, such as the behaviour of siblings, to optimise screening conditions. Ensure the safety and security of equipment at all times and report any problems to the local manager. The post-holder will have day-to-day responsibility for managing the hearing screening equipment. 3. General Administrative Duties Related Activities Receiving and acting on telephone calls from health visitors etc. Assist with organising meetings, training sessions etc Use and set up databases to record information Ensure messages are passed on or dealt with. Set up and maintain mailing lists Order stocks of consumables, information leaflets etc and distribute as required Maintain equipment records and calibration logs Monitor enquiries from the web page and bring to the attention of the local manager Organise meetings For further details please see the attached JD & PS
