PLANNING SUMMER STUDENT
Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individual to join our Engineering and Development Services Department as a Planning Summer Student.

Salary: $19.80 - $21.68 per hour

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
This position reports to the Manager of Approvals and will assist the Approvals Section in its day-to-day operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Researching best practices and other relevant information to support ongoing projects and studies.
2. Reviewing recent changes to legislation and policy at Provincial and Municipal levels.
3. Assist with reviewing, planning and development applications, pre-consultation requests, minor variance applications, consent applications, and/or heritage permit applications.
4. Preparing communication, memos, notices, minutes, etc.
5. This position may attend Committee of Council meetings, such as Committee of Adjustment, Planning Advisory Committee and/or Heritage Belleville.
6. Site visits when required.
7. Data collection, analysis, and cataloguing.
8. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
* Enrolled in a two (2) year community college program preferably focused on Urban and Regional Planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Enrolled in a four (4) year university program in Planning or related degree deemed equivalent.
* GIS Mapping, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft Office Experience.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
* Experience in a municipal office environment.
* Experience with Microsoft Office application with strong proficiency in Excel and Word.
* Mathematical, organizational, time management, interpersonal and community skills.
* Experience and professionalism in dealing with both inter-department and external contacts, with considerations of confidential information.
* Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in dealing with residents, developers, and other community members.
* Ability to work under tight timelines.
