Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary within the Surgical Division working within Department of Upper Gastrointestinal team at the Arrowe Park site.
The successful candidate will have the AMSPAR qualification or equivalent experience; they should be organised, approachable and happy to help.
Please expect in your interview to undertake a short typing test.
This post is to cover office hours between 08:30 until 17:00. Working hours will be reviewed on appointment. (potentially 1 working day from home available )
Main duties of the job
This interesting and varied role requires the ability to work well on your own initiative whilst being committed to teamwork as you will need to work with others to meet the patients' needs.
This position also requires good communication skills, the ability to meet the demands of working in a busy environment and is able to represent the department with due professionalism.
You will responsible for implementing and managing systems for the office/team workload, ensuring work is completed within strict timescales.
You will need to exercise your judgement and initiative based on experience and knowledge of arising problems and taking appropriate action to resolve situations, including follow up with investigation results, ensuring that all results are presented to medical staff and subsequently auctioned/filed into patients medical records.
You will have the ability to work under pressure, prioritise your workload and to deal with confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential
1. AMSPAR Medical Secretarial Diploma or equivalent experience
2. RSA 111 word processing or equivalent
3. Experience of audio typing
4. Experience of using own initiative and prioritising workload, using organisational skills
5. Previous administrative experience working with in the NHS or medical environment
Desirable
6. Experience of supervising more junior staff
Knowledge & Skills
Essential
7. Excellent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office
8. Excellent time management/ organisational skills
9. Awareness of Trust guidelines regarding complaints, confidentiality etc.
10. Awareness of relevant NHS/departmental targets for example 18 week RTT and cancer

11. Experience of using CERNER or relevant patient database
