Duties
* Ensure the effective management of resources under the post holder’s control, ensuring that Incommunities requirements, specifications standards and frequencies are met, through the efficient and effective deployment of labour, vehicles, machinery, plant and tools.
* Manage a team of qualified Arborist staff members.
* If required, cover for the Grounds Maintenance Assistant Manager and deputise for the Grounds Maintenance Delivery Lead.
* Deal with and resolve day to day staffing issues and concerns, including staff performance reviews, one to ones and any disciplinary concerns, sickness triggers in line with appropriate policies and procedures.
* Conduct Health & Safety training, toolbox talks and surveillance covering a wide remit of Arboriculture and grounds maintenance activities, including Hand and Arm Vibration, noise and dermatitis monitoring.
* Record, investigate and help resolve customer complaints.
* To promote, manage and implement new ways of working and modernisation of the service.
* Manage facilities and to support grounds maintenance Team Leaders in the supervision of operational service delivery,
* Plan, and implement tree planting schemes to offset the lost trees due to diseases, Health and Safety and natural phenomenal.
* Work with the Local Authority to plan work and to ensure that all approvals have been obtained before any works are carried out within conservation areas or on trees that are protected via a Tree Perseveration Order (TPO) and Felling Licences, Including road traffic closure, temporary lights and signage etc.
* Manage delegated budgets, ensuring effective control procedures are implemented and best value for money obtained.
* Manage arboricultural contracts including tree survey and management works and source new suppliers.
* Arrange the testing of lifting and climbing equipment to ensure it is safe to use, LOLER (lifting equipment regulations) and PUWER (work equipment regulations) testing.
* Ensure the correct disposal of all generated waste including tree chip, logs and roots following environmental agency policies, and guidelines including Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
* Complete and maintain appropriate records including but not limited to time sheets, leave requests, vehicle check sheets, insurance documentation, accident book, accident report forms, road traffic incidents, defect reports, sickness monitoring and reporting etc.
Requirements
* Experience of supervising, directing and assisting teams of people and contracts management.
* Substantial experience in arboriculture/ horticultural, work programming, inspection and monitoring within a range of locations, woodlands, private gardens with limited access and common areas.
* Substantial climbing work, cable bracing, arial rescue and chain saw operations.
* Experience of working from ropes, ladders, MEWP, IPAF (mobile elevated work platforms, harness work)
* City & Guilds Arboriculture (level 2 minimum) – NPTC City & Guilds – NPTC CS30, 31,32, CS34, 35 38.1, 38.2, 39, 40,41,48
* NPTC Stump grinder and chipper Certification Experience of using IT Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet for work purposes
* A current UK car driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for work purposes
