Your new role
As our new Associate Engineer - Electrical Infrastructure, you will support our colleagues in the wider Building Services division working on a wide variety of projects. You will be expected to provide expertise on the electrical infrastructure elements of private customer networks, decarbonization of heat, electric vehicles, battery storage and renewable projects as well as providing insights to customers on how to prepare their power networks for future decarbonisation needs. We would like for you to have a clear grasp of the regulatory and policy elements that affect the electricity markets, market negotiations and trading arrangements, and network operators and how these changes can shape all-energy masterplans.
Your key responsibilities will be:
1. Be the Electrical subject matter expert for the UK on our electrical infrastructure projects and input your expertise in the various stages of our clients' projects;
2. Work on feasibility stage electrical designs for new connections or upgrades;
3. Develop connection strategies, high-level equipment sizing, single line diagrams and spatial designs of new substations across voltage levels (Up to 33 kV);
4. Developing the infrastructure team with support from the leadership team to support detailed designs of electrical infrastructure;
5. Support masterplan studies on pathways to decarbonisation by providing expert advice on future loads, feasibility of proposed solutions and impact assessment on the grid at either local, regional or national level;
6. Update the team regularly on policy/regulation/market changes that might impact electrical infrastructure solutions;
7. Keep up to date with supplier developments, equipment lead times and high-level costs for substations, grid code and market changes.
Your new team
You will be part of a skilled multi-disciplinary technical team working alongside several project managers across different teams and geographies. You will be the go-to person for Building and Energy colleagues to help deliver a holistic approach to customers. Our team seeks to improve the efficiency and sustainability of electrical infrastructure around the world; as well as enable the net-zero transition within the UK. Our services range from feasibility studies to concept design and detail technical designs depending on client needs.
About You

These include:
1. Experience working with distribution network operators, independent network connection providers, independent DNOs and other market entities in particular with infrastructure planning of project-level across a variety of stages in the UK (feasibility, concept, design and specification);
2. Working knowledge of grid code compliance requirements;
3. Experience working in accordance with DNO standard documents, reviewing single line diagrams and designs;
4. Experience in working on electrical infrastructure or strategy design for distribution system operators that will give you the tools to work across divisions, customers and voltage levels;
5. Knowledge of energy market regulations and keeping up to date with the largest changes on business plans and connection charging.
What qualifications will make you successful?
1. Be qualified to degree level in relevant discipline (Electrical Engineering) or equivalent experience;
2. Possess sound commercial knowledge of the customer base and their business drivers;
3. Be able to demonstrate related work experience and a strong track record in a similar role as a Design Engineer, Protection Engineer, Power Systems Engineer or in a similar position;
4. Demonstrated commercial, technical and business acumen, particularly experience in complex project & solutions technical sales;
5. Proven ability to work both without supervision and with others to deliver results;
6. Demonstrates a highly developed understanding of client requirements to deliver technically proficient solutions;
7. Able to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines;
8. Ability to communicate well in English, both written and spoken;
9. Fully PC & Windows Excel/Word/PowerPoint literate;
10. Holds a Full UK Driving License and have the willingness to travel to customer sites when required;
11. Desirable if you already possess or working towards your Chartered Engineer status or if you are a member of a relevant engineering institution such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
