About the Role
This ambitious research project is focused on the innovation of bioresorbable orthobiologic devices to support delivery of novel therapeutics and validating the efficacy of this approach through the use of 3D in vitro models. This position is based in the School of Engineering & Materials Science, home to QMULs Centre for Bioengineering. The School has an international award winning reputation in biomaterials innovation and commercial translation, including the Actifuse and Inductigraft synthetic bone graft substitute devices, now in global clinical use.
About You
The successful candidate will have prior experience in the formulation, manufacture and full mechanical, structural and chemical characterization of melt processed bioresorbable polymer bioactive composites. They will also have prior experience in experimental statistical design, in vitro cytotoxicity and functional osteogenic cell testing. Prior knowledge of the fields of bone tissue augmentation and regeneration is essential.
About the Project
The project falls under the Musculoskeletal Theme within the Biomedical Research Centre in Precision Healthcare, awarded to the Barts Health NHS Trust clinical/academic delivery partnership by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). It is part of a pathway to develop a new generation of treatments to combat musculoskeletal disease which can be tailored to clinical need and patient specifics.
