To participate fully in the daily functioning of the Waters Edge care team in providing a person centred, caring and professional service to all Service Users in a safe and homely environment; working in support of the Managers / Team Leaders in charge and alongside care assistants who they will both support and supervise SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The responsibilities linked to this position can be summarised as follows: Ensuring the highest standards of person centred, caring, safe, responsive andeffective care is delivered to all Service Users at all times. Safe administration of medication Working as a team player in support of the Managers/Team Leaders andalongside care assistants who they will both support and supervise. Co-operating with and applying operational and environmental controls to ensurethat care is delivered in a safe, consistent and collaborative manner. Maintaining and respecting the confidentiality of Service Users, their relatives andall staff within the home as well as visiting professionals. Adhering to and promoting Safeguarding, Health and Safety and other protectivemeasures at all times; acting on and reporting any concerns identified or raised in a prompt, professional and appropriate manner. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: To actively participate in as well as to promote the provision of care to all Service Users as directed by the Waters Edge philosophy and within the parameters of policy and procedure, enhancing the collective safety, comfort and well-being of all Service Users. To deliver and promote person centred care to the highest possible standards to meet individual and collective needs. Standards of performance are achieved when: A professional, caring, safe, efficient, responsive and prompt service is always provided to Service Users. Active participation with the ordering, administration and safe storage of medication. Person centred assistance is provided to the Service Users, as required, in accomplishing activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating and mobilising in order that as full and rewarding a life as possible is achieved. All equipment provided in the care home is used properly and in accordance with operating instructions as well as being stored appropriately when not in use. Active participation as a team member under the direction of the Managers in charge as well as supervising and guiding others when required is evidenced. A high level of team spirit and positivity is demonstrated in order to promote and maintain team morale. Active participation is evidenced in relation to the management of behaviours that challenge from both a direct involvement, observational and supervisory perspective to ensure that care delivered meets the unique needs of each individual Service User and that risk management is at the heart of every intervention. Participation in the undertaking of new starter inductions, as appropriate, in terms of mentoring/buddying new recruits; working through their induction files and demonstrating their new duties, in order to ensure they become fully integrated within the care home and individual teams as well as feeling welcomed and valued. Bank and agency staff are made aware of the procedures and processes in the care home and feel welcomed into the team during their span of duty. Appropriate delegation of duties to care assistants as and when required is evidenced. Acting as a first line supervisor for care assistants; answering general day to day queries and ensuring any conduct or capability issues are referred to the Manager in charge and wherever necessary the Team Leader / Manager In relation to night workers specifically; promoting individualised positive sleep patterns for the Service Users and promoting an environment conducive to the promotion of rest, relaxation and sleep. Training needs are identified for new and existing care assistants and raised with the Manager / Team Leader in writing and in a timely manner; addressing immediate deficits appropriately to minimise risk. To effectively co-operate in care home operational controls and Service User care. Staff allocation is effectively and professionally organised in support of the Manager / Team Leader in charge with active leadership ensuring that all care is delivered following a person centred team approach and is documented appropriately and that proper channels of communication with the Manager / Team Leaders are maintained. Appropriate respect and care of Service User property and care home equipment is displayed at all times. Any relevant changes to a Service Users condition are properly and fully reported and care plans are completed in readiness for the appropriate shift handover. Full awareness of and compliance with care/home/company policies and procedures is demonstrated and co-operation is given in relation to ensuring all changes and updates to such policies and procedures are fully communicated to all junior staff. The confidentiality of Service Users personal information is maintained by adhering to the measures in place to monitor Service User files, notes etc. in order to ensure that they are kept private and secure and that the contents are only discussed with authorised personnel on a need to know basis. All concerns and/or complaints are effectively communicated to the Manager/ Team Leader without delay, ensuring that effective steps are also taken to record the information appropriately in the care files and on other Last Review Date: 2023 documentation as appropriate, ensuring confidentiality is not breached in the process. All Safeguarding, health & safety, infection control, fire, environmental and other legal requirements are properly observed without exception and to ensure: The prompt escalation of any Safeguarding concerns identified. All actual and likely health & safety hazards, accidents and incidents involving Service Users, staff or visitors are properly reported to the person in charge. The escalation of any infection control issue to relevant supervisor/manager. All aspects of food handling, preparation and presentation to Service Users are properly monitored in order to ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations. Participation in the formulation and undertaking of a monthly infection control audit and subsequent action plans is evidenced. The company uniform is worn at all times whilst at work and is properly maintained and laundered to set a positive example to junior staff and to maintain the professional reputation of the home. The Senior Care Assistant is required to undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties set by the Unit and/or Care Home Manager as arise from time to time. External Relationships The Senior Care Assistant will be expected to participate in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with Service Users, relatives and external agencies within the local community. They are required to uphold and promote the values and beliefs of Alpha Health Care. Physical area of work The Senior Care Assistant will normally be assigned to Waters Edge Care Home; however as per contract they may be required to work/assist on other units within Alpha Health Care Ltd. Education, Training and Qualifications NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care Attendance to statutory and mandatory training sessions as follows; Fire safety, COSHH, Health & Safety Dignity, Elder Abuse, Care Act 2014 Moving & Handling Infection Control Managing Behaviours that Challenge, Safety intervention training Safe administration of medication training Safeguarding Food Hygiene Experience and Job Related Knowledge Dementia Awareness and knowledge base of complex needs care Staff supervision experience Experience of ordering, administering and safe storage of medication.
