Job Opportunity: Band 4 Assistant Theatre Practitioner (ATP)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking band 4 ATP to work within the orthopaedic scrub team at the National Treatment Centre - Highland (NTC). This position is open to qualified ATPs but can also be offered as a training post. Training will be primarily at NTC- Highland, with additional training days at NHS Scotland Academy (Glasgow) and online coursework for SVQ Level 3. All training costs are funded by NTC- Highland. The course is expected to start in January 2026, with the post commencing upon successful recruitment and disclosure process.
About the NTC Highland
The NTC-H is a new purpose-built centre providing care for Ophthalmology and Orthopaedic patients. Located at the City’s University Campus, it features 5 theatres, a 24-bed ward, and a dedicated Ophthalmology Outpatient Department. The centre performs approximately 38 hip/knee arthroplasty procedures weekly and also conducts orthopaedic day case hand and foot procedures twice a week.
Role Responsibilities
In addition to the circulating role, successful applicants will perform the scrub role, which includes:
1. Scrubbing, gloving, gowning, and setting up equipment and instrument trays.
2. Draping patients and handling instruments, passing them to surgeons, and anticipating their needs during surgery.
3. Performing counts, documentation, and hand-over to recovery staff.

Note on Working Hours
NHS Scotland is reducing the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours starting 1 April 2024, with no change in pay. This change will be applied pro-rata for part-time staff.
