Background to the role We are seeing high demand for our services within all established sectors, which include nuclear, transportation, oil and gas, and defence. Additionally, we are becoming increasingly involved in supporting the safe and effective development of innovative technologies to mitigate climate change, including onshore/offshore wind energy generation and the hydrogen economy. We are therefore looking for a Human Factors Consultant to help grow our Human Factors capabilities across these disciplines. Previous Human Factors projects As a Risktec Human Factors Consultant, you will provide Human Factors support to a range of interesting and challenging projects across all sectors. A selection of Risktecs previous Human Factors projects are as follows: Nuclear: international project that developed guidance documentation on human machine interface (HMI) design to support development of a Pressurised Water Reactor nuclear power station. Rail: supported the roll out of four new class of unit for a rolling stock manufacturer, project involved physical ergonomic assessment, user trials and alarms assessment. Oil and gas: provided a systematic Human Factors review of an offshore jack-up drilling rig to ensure acceptability of design for operations in the UK North Sea. Clean energy: completed a Human Factors review of inclined boat landing ladder to access offshore wind turbines. Defence: developed a human factors integration plan for a fuel manufacturing plant. Job description We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Human Factors Consultant to work effectively and collaboratively with our Human Factors team. Consultants will be based at one of Risktecs UK offices (Derby, London, Warrington, Bristol, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, or Glasgow) with hybrid and flexible working arrangements available to all. You will assist with the delivery of Risktecs strategy for growth in high hazard industries, growing our client and revenue base, as well as supporting and leading the delivery of existing and new Human Factors projects. As a member of the Human Factors team, you will have the opportunity to manage and deliver nationally and internationally significant projects. As part of the role, you will develop a good understanding of the technical, engineering, and operational issues within a variety of different industries. Duties and responsibilities Providing technical human factors support to colleagues and clients, working in areas such as: Human Factors Integration and Human Factors Engineering support to design and engineering projects. HMI design and assessment. Anthropometric assessment / user trials. Safety Culture and Competence Management. Training development and delivery. Safety Case support for claims on operators. Task Analysis. Quantitative Human Reliability Assessment / Human Error Analysis. Requirements Essential requirements are as follows: A degree (BEng, BSc, or MSc) or equivalent in Human Factors / Ergonomics or a related subject. Chartered Ergonomist & Human Factors Specialist (C.ErgHF) or working towards the award of CIEHF Chartered status. 5 years of applied Human Factors/Ergonomics experience, and/or 2 years of applied Human Factors/Ergonomics in the Nuclear sector. Flexibility and willingness to travel internationally. Excellent report writing and presentation skills. UK security clearance (or ability to achieve). Desirable requirements are as follows: Experience of working in a one or more high hazard industries (e.g. nuclear). Experienced in project management and used to independent working. Experience working with multiple, diverse industry stakeholders. Experience in a consultancy environment and all non-technical aspects of such works, for example, proposal writing. Personal qualities: Able to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently where needed. Clear communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong organisational skills and attention to detail are critical in the work that we do. Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
