Introduction:
A young man with Global Developmental Delay and learning disabilities in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support him with his care needs and socialisation.
This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the young man to manage his support and meet his care needs independently.
The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of this young man. They should be able to support him to make his own decisions around his care needs and encourage him to maintain his independence.
The main duties to be included within this role are:
• Assisting him to attend his favourite places of interest, cinema, Heatherton and Climbing Wall.
• Ensuring his safety at all times because he has no sense of danger.
• Supporting him with encouragement in gaining independence.
• Enabling him to interact socially in his community.
• Supporting him to develop independent living skills.
• To provide companionship in the young man’s home, including engaging in conversation with him and providing him with social interaction.
• To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by his family during your working hours.
• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should he need medical assistance.
The young man is looking for a personal assistant that fits the following person specification:
• Caring and patient
• Responsible and honest
• Proactive and self-motivated
• Has good local knowledge
• Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties
• Good communicator
• Able to develop a supportive and consistent relationship
Other Requirements:
A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
