About Us
383 is a digital product studio that helps ambitious brands build digital platforms, services, and experiences. We blend strategy, design, and technology to solve complex challenges for some of the world’s most recognised brands. We don’t just build things, we shape the future of digital experiences by combining commercial insight, creativity, and deep technical expertise.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Head of Technology and AI, or a Creative Technologist who can drive our engineering function forward, ensuring our work remains innovative, commercially viable, and technologically cutting-edge. This role is a hybrid of leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on problem-solving. You’ll be a proactive, client-facing leader who can articulate our technological vision, consult on solutions, and work seamlessly across teams to execute ideas effectively.
Your Role
1. Technology Leadership: Define and drive the technical vision for 383, ensuring alignment with business strategy and emerging technology trends.
2. Client-Facing Consultancy: Represent 383 in client meetings, lead and host client workshops to scope projects, define technical approaches, and contribute to proposals with commercial acumen.
3. Thought Leadership: Develop and share insights on emerging technologies, AI, and best practices through blogs, talks, hosting webinars and internal knowledge-sharing.
4. Product & Service Development: Work with the design and engineering teams to craft innovative digital products that leverage AI and modern technologies.
5. Engineering Strategy: Build and maintain a strong engineering culture that emphasises problem-solving, efficiency, and forward-thinking technical approaches.
6. Talent Development: Mentor and coach the engineering team, ensuring high standards in development, code quality, and technical decision-making, as well as seeking out and nurturing new talent into the team.
7. Operational Efficiency: Improve engineering workflows, reduce friction in project estimation and delivery, and ensure teams are equipped to execute effectively.
8. New Technology Exploration: Stay ahead of the curve, exploring new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that can enhance 383’s services and offerings.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
1. 5 years of experience leading an engineering team or working in a Creative Technologist role.
2. Strong technical background with experience in AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
3. Proven ability to define and execute technology strategies in an agency or digital product studio environment.
4. Experience working directly with clients to shape technical solutions and proposals.
5. Strong commercial acumen with an ability to balance technical feasibility and business value.
6. Familiarity with modern development practices, cloud platforms, and digital product development.
7. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex ideas simply, and not shy away from any opportunity to present in front of an audience.
What you’ll bring
1. Proactive Problem-Solving: You see challenges as opportunities and have a bias towards action.
2. Client-Facing & Commercially Minded: You can confidently communicate complex technology ideas to clients and internal stakeholders, balancing business needs with technical feasibility.
3. Consultative & Strategic: You can shape technology solutions, not just execute them, and you’re comfortable being the technical voice in commercial discussions.
4. Organised & Structured: You can manage multiple projects, ensuring teams are delivering high-quality work at pace.
5. Innovative & Curious: You explore emerging technologies, especially AI, and can translate technical advancements into commercial opportunities.
6. Thoughtful & Inspiring: You lead by example, sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
7. Hands-On When Needed: While you’ll focus on leadership and strategy, you’re not afraid to get into the details and contribute where required.
About us
We're pretty laid back, but there's a few things you should know about what's important to us.
1. Humility, not modesty: We know that we’re good and we trust in our people, our skills, and our capabilities. But we also know that nobody is above making mistakes, and there is always more for us to learn. We talk with confidence, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
2. Bravery, not bravado: We push each other to be better, take calculated risks, and admit when we’re in the wrong. We put our money where our mouth is, and hold the same high standards of ourselves as we do of our clients.
3. Compassion, not indifference: We care about each other, we care about the work we do, and we care about the world we live in. We understand that we all have lives outside of the office, and that our impact goes beyond the products we build.
4. Honesty, not lip service: We believe in straight talking and telling it like it is, without pushing an agenda. We strive to have open conversations that focus on the right thing to do.
Benefits
The salary band for this role is dependent on experience.
1. Tech: Swanky Macbook to work on.
2. Flexible Hours: We know people have kids, dogs, lives, it’s all good!
3. Your Birthday Off: Not to mention 20 days holiday to start & Christmas off on top! (That’s about 38 days holiday inc B/H’s, way better than the normal 28!)
4. Family Planning: We offer an enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave package.
5. Healthcare: We’ve a healthcare cash plan for UK residents.
6. Training & Development: We’ve a quarterly book budget, we run regular Breakfast Sessions + Lunch & Learn sessions to spread the knowledge and more!
7. Canvas community: Another learning opportunity, we run a community for product people, with on and off-line events and learning opportunities throughout the year that you are welcome to attend.
8. A Bit Of Fun: A voucher every quarter to spend on whatever you like, just for turning up!
9. Socials: We’re a pretty sociable bunch so we run lots of events online, as well as IRL to catch up with your colleagues!
10. Pension: 3% Employer to match 5% Employee contributions.
How to apply
We don’t believe in seven stage interviews, psychometric testing, or mass committees deliberating if you’re ‘worthy’ of being a part of our team. At the same time, we won’t just have a chinwag over a coffee and offer you a job on the spot either. What’s really important is you feel we’re a fit for you, and vice versa, so we will spend time getting to know each other.
Generally speaking, the application process will include:
1. A 30-min video chat to talk through your CV and experience with our Experience Director.
2. An interview with one of our Experience Directors and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. You’ll be given a couple of things to prepare in advance, including a brief to respond to. Don’t worry - we’ll give you plenty of time for this bit.
Just to let you know...
We’re looking for people who share our values of passion, humility, bravery, and honesty, in addition to compassion, talent, and hard work. Oh, and a decent sense of humour will help, too.
You may not meet all of the requirements in this job description, but you should still apply, especially if you have an interesting story to tell. Your skills and passion will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your path into product has been unconventional. We welcome diverse perspectives and people who think rigorously and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo.
We’re thrilled with the applications we receive for our roles and love taking the time to review them, but unfortunately, we’re not able to reach out to everyone individually. If we’d like to move forward with your application we’ll definitely be in contact with you!
383 has a policy of non-solicitation of employees from either active or prospective clients. We apologise to any applicants this impacts, but it is a necessary policy to protect our ongoing commercial interests.
We are not looking to work with 3rd parties, direct applicants only.
