About the Team
While reporting directly to the Director of Economy & Place, you will be embedded within and work closely with our Skills & Employment Team within the wider Economy & Skills service. Our Skills & Employment Team work closely with businesses, schools & colleges, training providers, wider partners, and stakeholders across a range of programmes to create a well-skilled population that meets the needs of our growing and evolving economy. Key activities include working with businesses to identify their skills needs and help them engage the most appropriate providers, supported employment support, promoting and supporting the uptake of apprenticeships across the county, and working with schools and businesses through our Warwickshire Careers Hub. The successful candidate will also work closely with our Corporate Strategy & Policy Team to support our work on finalising our Devolution Deal with Government.
About the Role
This is a great opportunity to help drive forward Warwickshire’s devolution deal with Government and help us maximise the impact of securing local control over Adult Skills Funding in Warwickshire (currently c. £7m p.a.). The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Economy & Place, a range of teams across the Council, and with the Department for Education to develop our policies and processes for managing the devolved funding, meet the Government’s Readiness Criteria for securing the funding, helping set the strategic direction and utilisation of future Adult Skills Funding to best meet the needs of our businesses and residents, and help establish the team that will be responsible for managing the funding going forward.
This is a fixed term role for no more than 18 months to undertake the preparatory work needed to secure the devolved responsibility over the Adult Skills Fund. Future opportunities may exist beyond this as we move into delivery for interested candidates.
Key Requirements
* An understanding of skills funding/training programmes
* Strong project/programme management experience
* Ability to collate and analyse financial and statistical information
* An ability to work pro-actively to identify and drive forward key work areas
* Excellent communication skills and ability to develop strong working relationships quickly.
