Salary: Six figure package
Hybrid: 4 days in office, 1 from home
Visa: We cannot offer any visa support or sponsorship. You MUST have the right to live and work in the UK without restriction. Due to the nature of some projects, you should be able to obtain UK security clearance.
Experience level: We will not discriminate on any grounds, but it is unlikely that anyone with less than 15 years experience will have had the chance to gain the breadth of technical, commercial, and personal skills needed for this position.
The role:
Due to upcoming retirement, an opportunity has arisen for someone to join and lead a niche electronics R&D and manufacturing organisation. Reporting to a Group Managing Director, you will take full P&L responsibility for a standalone business unit which currently stands at about 40 employees.
The role requires a number of areas of expertise as follows:
1. Technical: you MUST come from an electronics background, either hardware or software.
2. Commercial: you should have experience of managing a P&L, of measuring R&D costs and calculating payback times.
3. Interpersonal: this role will involve a lot of customer-facing work, so strong communication skills are essential.
4. People management: experience of managing teams of specialists is essential.
5. Business development: the company is looking to grow, and as the General Manager, you will identify new markets or sectors and work with sales teams to develop them.
About you:
1. A degree-level qualification is essential. Whilst a technical qualification (Electronics Engineering or similar) is preferred, a business-focused degree coupled with extensive experience in the electronics sector is also appropriate.
2. Postgraduate qualifications (Masters, PhD, etc.) or professional certifications (MBA, Chartered Engineer, Chartered Manager) are beneficial.
3. Commercially aware. Experience of managing a P&L is very much preferred, and experience of providing financial reports to a Board of Directors would be ideal.
4. Experience of research, design, and development of electronics products is essential.
5. Experience of leading multi-skilled teams including hardware, software, quality, sales and business development, marketing, production and manufacturing, operations.
6. Able to travel nationally and internationally.
