Mill Water School is an all-age special school for pupils with severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism. The school stands in the grounds of Bicton College. Our beautiful, rural surroundings provide unrivalled opportunities for outdoor learning.
From EYFS through to Post 16, our pupils access a bespoke learning and communication package to challenge their educational progress, working in partnership with multi-agency professionals and families.
We're looking for someone who will ensure the school site is a safe environment for pupils, employees, visitors, and contractors. The successful candidate will report to the School Business Manager and work closely with the leadership team to help manage the school site. Duties will include managing health and safety, general maintenance of the building and grounds, project management of specific work involving liaising with contractors, general security, and some cleaning when necessary. As a key holder for the site, there may be a rare need to work unsocial hours. It is essential that the successful candidate is competent in undertaking regular safety checks and risk assessments on the premises. You will need to be able to drive and have a clean driving license as we have a fleet of school vehicles.
The role includes various aspects of premises management, making it an interesting and dynamic job.
We are looking for a candidate who ideally:
1. has previous caretaking or site maintenance experience, as you will be expected to demonstrate an ability to carry out minor repairs and testing as well as write and monitor risk assessments and other H&S documents
2. is comfortable working independently and on their own initiative and can develop and build a good relationship with our pupils, staff, and partners
3. will be well organised, practical, enthusiastic, and reliable; adaptive, patient, and a great team player and communicator.
