Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
About the Role
A leading company specializing in manufacturing products for the veterinary industry is seeking a Health and Safety Manager for a 12-month maternity cover position. With a growing portfolio of products and increasing demand, this role is crucial to ensuring the business remains compliant with health and safety legislation while fostering a strong safety culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities
The Health and Safety Manager will oversee the health and safety and maintenance functions, ensuring compliance and operational excellence. Key duties include:
* Delivering and maintaining health and safety training programs for all personnel.
* Advising and supporting departmental managers on health and safety matters to promote a strong safety culture.
* Managing safety records, incident reporting, and investigations, including root cause analysis and follow-up actions.
* Ensuring compliance with RIDDOR regulations and timely reporting to HSE.
* Maintaining and reviewing risk assessments and COSHH documentation.
* Conducting safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
* Supporting workplace adjustments and ensuring new equipment purchases meet safety standards.
* Managing the maintenance system for safety equipment, machinery, and general facilities.
* Contributing to health and safety documentation and training related to facility changes or moves.
* Staying up-to-date with health and safety legislation and implementing necessary updates.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide guidance and support to other departments, acting as a member of the Site Leadership Team.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a laboratory or science-based environment.
* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational H&S or a Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice (or equivalent).
* Previous management experience.
* Desirable experience in supporting a facility site move.

* Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
* Ability to lead and advise managers on health and safety matters effectively.
* Proficiency in delivering training sessions and presentations.
* Excellent time management and adaptability to shifting priorities.
* Integrity, motivation, and attention to detail in all work.
* Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
