Are you a dedicated and passionate Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) seeking to work in an expanding, highly motivated and friendly Speech and Language Therapy team? Mildmay Oaks Hospital (CQC rated as Good) has created a new and exciting post for someone wanting to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of people with communication difficulties, some of whom may have swallowing difficulties.
The role involves working within an inpatient mental health hospital for men and women with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism. You will help to support our clients to develop their functional communication skills through a number of approaches to help our clients progress towards their discharge and enabling them to live a happier and fulfilling life within the community.
Person-centred planning is at the heart of everything we do, based on the specific needs of the individuals in our care. This role comes with the opportunity to develop your management skills through the line management of the SLT Assistant and by leading on-site communication projects across the site. Necessary training and support will be provided.

Found in semi-rural Hampshire, Mildmay Oaks is surrounded by fields but close to rail links and the M3 and A30 road network.
We are looking for:
- Someone who wants to develop or extend their clinical expertise with this client group
- Someone keen to engage with the wider Priory Speech and Language Therapy networks
- Motivated to collaboratively participate in quarterly Priory Speech and Language Therapy meetings
- Able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Able to work closely alongside The Lead Speech and Language Therapist and provide support to the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA).
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- HCPC approved Degree/Masters (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy
- To be registered with HCPC and RCSLT
- Experience in working with a client population who present with a diagnosis of Autism (ASD)/Learning Disability, along with complex needs and challenging behaviour
- Experience in or an interest in Dysphagia management
- The ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent communication/time management skills.

The Role/Key Responsibilities:
As a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), you will manage a caseload of clients to maximise their potential and enable them to enjoy the best possible quality of life via the delivery of an evidence-based SLT service. You will promote effective functional communication, social skills development, collaborative working and a total communication environment. You will assess communication needs, whilst implementing and developing the SLT programme according to clients' diagnosis and identified needs. You will be involved in setting therapeutic targets and using appropriate outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
This role will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team comprising Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Nursing and Psychiatry. You will also work closely alongside a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and provide support to the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SLTA). You will attend ward rounds, CPA's and CTR's for your client caseload and be involved in working as part of a team to develop MDT therapeutic interventions and Care Plans.
