As the Site Engineering Manager (SEM), you will hold overall responsibility for the engineering facilities, site automation, services, refrigeration, safety, and adherence to both legal requirements and Gist policies at the site. This role is crucial in ensuring that all engineering activities are aligned with the strategic objectives of the business while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. You will work closely with key stakeholders, including the Business Engineering Manager (BEM), Site General Manager (GM), Site Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Manager, and Site Operations (OPS) teams. Automation Management - You will be responsible for the delivery of improving automation availability, maximising throughput and reduction of downtime, supported by the network automation SME. This includes supporting site automation operational improvements and overseeing automation site projects, supporting and driving deep dives and root cause analysis, including adherence to statutory compliance where appropriate. Refrigeration – Ensure refrigeration plant is serviced and maintained to maximum efficiency. Continuous Improvement: Focus on all aspects of site functionality with a commitment to continuous improvement, utilising data to drive enhancements and operational efficiency. Preventative Maintenance Ownership: Oversee the system-based preventative maintenance program, encompassing all site facilities, fixed and mobile equipment, and portable electrical devices. Site Improvement Plans: Lead site improvement initiatives, including people management, safety, standards, and financial performance, ensuring the site operates at optimal levels. Engineering Labour Utilisation: Manage site engineering labour, including annual leave planning, recruitment, and shift management, to maintain operational efficiency. Statutory Compliance and Servicing: Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including auditing via the IMS Module 7. Strategic Engineering Management: Develop and maintain a strategic program for engineering activities, focusing on fixed plant and equipment, to eliminate hazards and minimise risks associated with accidental injury, property and environmental damage, or process loss. Contractor Management: Ensure all contractors are competent, aligned with Gist's safety culture and HSE requirements, possess sufficient insurance cover, and are effectively managed through the permit-to-work system. Third-Party Service Management: Manage and conduct regular documented review meetings with third-party service providers, such as Stertil, STAR, and GEA, ensuring high service standards and compliance. Site Interface Duties: Participate in site safety audits and daily operations meetings as required, providing strong collaborative support as an integral part of the site’s functions. Financial Budget Control: Oversee and manage the financial budgets for site engineering, including the invoicing process, ensuring cost-effective operations. Financial Analysis and Reporting: Lead weekly site engineering financial analysis, reporting on the Engineering finance call, and driving financial action plans to achieve site objectives. Critical Spares Management: Ensure the availability and management of critical spares for site engineering to consistently meet SLA requirements. Tools and Equipment Management: Oversee the management and maintenance of site engineering tools and equipment, ensuring they are fit for purpose and available when needed. Who you are: Your skills and experience will include: Experience in a facility managing engineering/maintenance/automation is essential. Experience in a facility with refrigeration is advantageous. Experience in a large logistics/transport department/HGV Industry would be beneficial. The Site Engineering Manager will have an excellent technical ability to identify and evaluate technical issues and potential risks and develop innovative solutions. Qualified in engineering discipline; HNC, HND or higher. Experience of operating within a unionised organisation is essential. Why Gist?
