Job Summary -
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking proactive and reactive interventions and investigations for food safety, communicable disease and health safety, responding to service requests and other notifications relevant to the work of the team and to take appropriate enforcement action where necessary to protect and improve public health. They will be expected to undertake said duties in accordance with any relevant statutory requirements, codes of practice or other operational guidance / policies that may be applicable. An exciting opportunity has arisen at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council for a qualified Environmental Health Officer to work within our Commercial Services Team, located in the Environmental Health Service.
We wish to recruit an excellent communicator and problem solver who is keen to join a team whose aim is to be constantly at the forefront of the latest initiatives in the environmental health field to deliver food safety, infectious disease and health and safety interventions and enforcement.
Managing your own individual caseload, your work will include programmed statutory inspections for food premises and implementing the food hygiene rating system. All inspections will be completed in line with the risk ratings and required through the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice. You will be responsible in the main for enforcing food safety, investigating notifications / outbreaks of infectious disease, complaints about food businesses, accident investigations, health and safety complaints, and providing advice to businesses and consumers.
You must be an Environmental Health Officer and hold a Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board or equivalent. You must also be able to demonstrate that you have experience of meeting the relevant competencies detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice in respect of inspection of a range of food establishments.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and committed with a dynamic approach to their work and to providing high quality services, playing an important role within the forward thinking Environmental Health Team.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post. The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
