As a Support Worker with United Response, you’ll play a vital role in empowering those you support to live more independent and fulfilling lives. In this role, you will utilise a digital app called Nourish to manage care and support plans for the individuals you assist. While experience with digital or mobile applications is desirable, we provide comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident in using the technology. About the Service At Derwenthorpe we support four young people aged from 26-31 with learning and physical disabilities, mental health conditions, down syndrome and autism. They have 24/7 hours in supported spreading across two connected houses with two floors and a beautiful garden, with a mixture of shared, 1:1 and 2:1 support. Shifts will be varied and include weekends, sleeps and waking nights. The people we support at Derwenthorpe also enjoy taking part in lots of activities such as gardening and baking. They have a lot of indoor games at the house and they love making competitions and having board games nights. They also love doing indoor parties and barbecues in the garden at summer time. They attend activities such as Athletics, bowling, discos, going to the cinema, going to the theatre and they love a good musical and comedy to watch. About the Role The people that live at Derwenthorpe need enthusiastic, energetic, creative, positive and caring people to support them. Your days will be varied and supporting people with all aspects of daily life means we need you to be adaptable- one part of the day might be supporting people to have dinner in a fancy pub, the next could be supporting people with intimate and personal care, then to support them to manage their bedroom. About you As a Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be to encourage and support individuals in achieving their goals and making their own choices. You’ll help them lead independent lives while providing the guidance and encouragement they need. We are looking for caring, compassionate, and hands-on individuals who can treat people with dignity and respect. Your empathy and integrity will be key to supporting those in need. We provide all necessary training—both online and in person—so you can succeed in your role. The people we support need (and want) people who support them to take the time to get to know them- to learn to listen to what they say with both their verbal and nonverbal language. This might be difficult at first but there are members of the team that will help to support you. We need people who are good communicators who can work alone and as part of a team, people who can problem solve and maintain boundaries in a positive and sensitive way. Supporting people also means doing the things that keep us safe and the people we support need staff who can help them to take care of their health needs as well. You will be supporting in attending appointments and working with families to make decisions and advocate where needed.
