Summary
Under direction of the Director for Undergraduate Admission, an Admission Counselor is responsible for participating in the recruitment of the first year class and transfers. An Admission Counselor will assist in the organization and coordination of special programs as needed.
Essential Functions
1. Establishes, implements, and carries out recruitment strategies in assigned regional and national territories; attends college fairs, college nights, high school visits and other related activities relevant to the recruitment of students and completes annual reports.
2. Develops prospects and high school contacts; meets with students and school counselors, conducts personal interviews both on and off campus; follows up in writing, phone, email or in person; places telephone calls to all interested prospects from assigned territory. Participates in non-recruitment focused programs, panel discussions, and seminars.
3. Nurtures guidance counselors and alumnae contacts in assigned recruitment territories. Maintains high visibility, sponsors information sessions, luncheons/dinners to build awareness of Regis College in assigned markets and to obtain support in developing contacts with appropriate prospects.
4. Manages and tracks applications, informing both students and counselors of application status, reviews applicant credentials for admission and scholarships as outlined in Admission Handbook and recommends admission decision. Participates in admission committee for additional review of applicants; this includes presenting files, and serving as an additional voice and opinion on admission decision.
5. Contributes to the development of team goals and strategies, while setting individual goals. Makes recommendations to the Director regarding recruitment strategy to maximize opportunities relating to yield; writes annual reports.
6. Provides college faculty, coaches, and other College personnel with names of interested students.
7. Organizes and coordinates special programs, as assigned.
8. Advises the Director of current trends within the high school market.
Qualifications
Requirements:
1. Duties require knowledge of college admissions equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree and one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
2. Considerable knowledge of the College’s policies and procedures. A strong commitment to the College’s goals and mission.
3. Knowledge of higher education administration.
4. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail.
5. Ability to follow through consistently on inquiries, requests, and suggestions.
6. Ability to resolve problems and to develop relevant alternatives and recommendations.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations for the College; and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
8. Ability to form strong coalitions with internal and external constituencies.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
1. Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
2. May use computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
3. Requires travel in automobile.
4. Requires work outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends.
5. May require lifting and carrying of recruiting materials.
