We are looking for someone work as both a driver and library assistant bringing books, resources and information to Birmingham residents. You’ll be driving our mobile library vehicle (approx. size of a single decker bus, 15 tonnes) and another smaller vehicle to do this. The service operates to a scheduled timetable and stops across the city. You will also work at our base undertaking library and/or vehicle duties when not driving. The Mobile Library Service visits a wide range of communities within Birmingham – including children, families, schools and adults. You will need to be able to use a computer and the internet, have good communication skills and have an interest in reading. We will provide support and training in working with the public – from how to help them choose books, to assisting with information requests, and other library associated tasks. You will be expected to undertake regular vehicle checks and adhere to vehicle servicing schedules. A flexible approach to working arrangements is also essential due to service timetabling. The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including a driving assessment prior to an offer being made.
