Opportunity Summary
The Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role in driving the success of the Maintenance Department, ensuring unwavering compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards while overseeing all engineering aspects of the power station. This role involves developing engineering procedures that protect the owner's investment and optimise facility availability in a safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly manner. The Engineering Manager will also guide a team of skilled engineers, manage contractor selection and compliance, and implement effective maintenance management systems. Additionally, the position requires strategic planning for obsolescence issues and providing expert technical guidance to minimise production losses and enhance operational efficiency.
Primary Functions
1. Serve as the professional Head of the Maintenance Department.
2. Adhere to and continually develop procedures that align with good maintenance practices while ensuring compliance with all areas of health, safety, and environmental programmes at Sutton Bridge Power Station, thereby protecting the owner’s investment and effectively implementing EHS programmes within the role’s area of responsibility.
3. Ensure facility compliance with all maintenance aspects of the operations and maintenance contract between the owner and contracted third-party service providers.
4. Develop maintenance procedures that protect the owner’s investment, maintain existing warranties, and achieve maximum facility availability at the lowest heat rate in a safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally friendly manner.
5. Establish, maintain, and audit routines for all maintenance aspects of the facility within a quality framework accreditable to internationally recognised standards.
6. Provide expert technical guidance on engineering standards and repair techniques to minimise production losses.
7. Develop and motivate a team of reliable and qualified personnel to maintain the facility.
8. Effectively control the selection, contract placement, and ongoing management of all contractors on-site.
9. Recruit, train, and develop maintenance team members.
10. Manage and implement company EHS procedures within the area of responsibility.
11. Establish a framework of policies and procedures that are accreditable to internationally recognised standards.
12. Develop a written scheme of inspection in accordance with the safety of pressure system regulations and perform duties as the pressure regulations engineer.
13. Lead the implementation of an effective computerized parts-tracking and maintenance management system, while developing, monitoring, and controlling the maintenance department budget.
14. Develop auditable training and accreditation schedules for Maintenance Technicians.
15. Provide support services to the operations department for expert diagnosis and defect repair.
16. Develop and manage support contracts for the effective operation and maintenance of the facility.
17. Ensure compliance by all contractors with the site’s environmental consents and obligations.
18. Manage, plan, schedule, and coordinate power train outages, both forced and planned.
19. Identify current and future obsolescence issues, ensuring a structured plan is in place to manage these issues before they impact plant operational availability and reliability.
20. Perform any other duties as directed by the Power Plant Manager that are within your capabilities.

Working Relationships
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the role involves liaising with all site departments and external stakeholders to co-ordinate effective and safe work by the site maintenance team.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, routinely lifting up to 15 kg, and when necessary, use a respirator.
Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, gloves, and high voltage protective equipment etc.). Working with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
Regular scheduled work hours consist of a Monday to Friday work week totaling 40 hours.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
21. A bachelor's degree (BEng) in Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university is essential. A master's degree (MEng) in Engineering or a related discipline is advantageous but not required.
22. Extensive experience with Industrial Gas Turbines, particularly GE 9FA, leading their operation and maintenance to enhance efficiency and reliability.
23. Proven expertise in managing EHV, HV, MV, and LV electrical systems, ensuring reliable power generation and compliance across voltage levels.
24. Comprehensive understanding of Steam and Natural Gas Systems, effectively leading teams in their design and maintenance for optimal performance and safety compliance.
25. Extensive Project Management experience, overseeing engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
26. Strong leadership abilities, with a track record in supervising and developing engineering teams through effective recruitment, mentorship, and communication.
27. Proven ability to implement maintenance programmes that enhance equipment availability, extend asset life, and drive operational improvements.
28. Advanced knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), gained through managing performance improvements with sophisticated control strategies.
29. In-depth expertise in compliance with engineering standards and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, implementing safety measures and conducting audits to ensure adherence.
30. Proficient in using advanced recording and analysis systems, implementing digital solutions for effective monitoring and data analysis.
31. Demonstrated expertise in budgetary planning and resource allocation, ensuring efficiency in financial control and project execution.
32. Exceptional skills in planning and coordinating engineering activities, aligning project objectives with organisational goals, and ensuring successful outcomes.
33. Must possess and maintain a valid full UK Drivers License.
