Responsibilities:
1. Contribute to the delivery of a planned programme of care under the direct supervision of the nurse.
2. Report general observations and provide feedback to the nurse both verbally and in written formats, if required.
3. Use a variety of verbal and non-verbal skills to overcome communication barriers presented by patients due to their cognitive or impaired sensory deficits.
4. Under the direction of the nurse, play a specific role in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
5. Undertake specific duties that contribute to the assessment of patients as requested by the nurse.
6. Seek appropriate advice and support from the nurse during occasions when patients or their carers become distressed.
7. Maintain accurate records as required that contribute to the assessment of a patient's physical condition.
8. Contribute to the development of risk management plans for patients by reporting to the multi-professional team any incidents of risk to the patient or risk to others as a result of the behaviour or actions of patients.
9. Maintain the dignity of service users at all times whilst dealing with aspects of personal care.
10. Adhere to hospice infection control measures at all times.
11. Participate in the cleaning of clinical areas within the Inpatient Unit.
12. Contribute to ongoing service improvement and development plan.
13. Support volunteers, students, and colleagues.
14. Undertake and participate in individual performance review and personal development planning.
Knowledge and Experience:
1. Passion and motivation to promote comfort, dignity, independence, and choice.
2. Experience caring for patients with advanced progressive disease and supporting patients and families at end of life.
3. Able to work on own initiative, with effective time management, whilst also working as part of a team.
4. Hold NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or Equivalent care certificate.

2. Show interest in all aspects of palliative care and long-term conditions.
