Batch-2024/2023
Job Introduction
We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join the Mobile Development Team that sits within the BBC’s Corporate Digital Applications team.
Your role will be developing native mobile iOS apps, using Swift, Swift UI and Objective-C, adding new features and fixing bugs, maintaining current apps and libraries and building new apps that are used by BBC staff and journalists across the globe.
This is a junior role. We expect you to either have experience with Apple’s Xcode IDE with an understanding of Swift, SwiftUI or Objective-C or good demonstrable experience with an equivalent technology and object-oriented languages (e.g. Android, Java, C++, etc) with a keen desire to move into iOS development.
The role is offered as a permanent full-time position however part-time or flexible working applicants will also be considered. Work location is flexible and you can be based in London, hybrid or fully remote with occasional trips to BBC offices in London or elsewhere expected.
Role Responsibility
How we work and about this role:
* This role will complement a small app development team within the larger Corporate Digital Applications team who develop and maintain entire app ecosystems including backend database, APIs, web, design and architecture.
* There’ll be a significant focus on clean reusable code. Doing things once, well, and building on that existing implementation allows us to maintain high code standards while working quickly.
* We work efficiently and iterate often to produce high-quality code. We prefer and find it more productive to actually build apps rather than having meetings and producing charts, so we don’t follow a capital ‘A’ Agile framework.
* We use Slack to communicate, Github for source control and Jira to organize our work.
Are you the right candidate?
Essential
* Computer Science degree or equivalent experience building native mobile apps, either iOS or Android, using appropriate IDEs: Xcode, Android Studio.

* Experience of working within a team.
* Good problem solving skills.
Desirable
* One or more published apps on the App Store or Google Play.
* Design experience.
* Experience using version control systems in a production environment (Git).
