Job role: Assistant Packaging Technologist
Main Purpose:
To provide a strong understanding of packaging and labelling technology and the different materials used to package a wide variety of products. This will allow informed decisions to be made, considering the advantages and disadvantages when selecting a packaging material or design type to ensure that it is fit for purpose.
Enabling the business to be proactive in reducing damages, waste, brand elevation, and ultimately increasing sales through good presentation and protection whilst understanding and recording the packaging details for legal, contractual, and logistical reasons.
Core Activities:
1. Understand packaging materials available and their applications.
2. Understand the manufacturing processes of various packaging materials.
3. Be aware of and understand packaging requirements and warehouse operation requirements, including storage categories, labelling requirements, and high bay limitations.
4. Experience in product development of packaging from concept to launch.
5. Good knowledge and understanding of legal requirements for labeling, safety warnings, handling symbols, product materials, and relevant legislation.
6. Pack assessment procedure - Assessing products for fragility and the level of shock protection needed alongside suppliers and our operations warehouse team.
7. Maintain and manage branded label processes including produce brief creations.
8. Waste data input and management through internal systems and alongside external providers.
9. Understand and keep up to date on manufacturing costs and processes.
10. Interest and understanding of sustainable packaging methods and materials.
11. Environmental awareness and our company’s obligations.
12. Experience in communicating in various methods with suppliers globally.
13. Work closely with packaging providers, designers, buyers, and product technologists to research and benchmark new technical innovations, product development, and testing to support the launch of new packaging offers.
14. Work closely with MED/QA teams on testing packaging and auditing new and current packaging from source and in-house.
15. Gain understanding of each function within Head Office and Logistics and how this integrates across all areas.
