Deputy Engineering Manager
Fancy taking a step up the engineering management ladder? What if you could help coach and mentor an engineering team to enhance their skills, passing on all of your technical knowledge to both experienced technicians and eager-to-learn apprentices alike?
If that sounds interesting, and you are looking for your next step in your career with Stagecoach East, we’re looking for an experienced engineer to join and support our engineering team.
We are looking for a Deputy Engineering Manager to become part of our management team. You’ll be assisting the Engineering Manager to support a team of 35 engineers, cleaners, paint shop technicians, and support staff who maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles as well as managing plant and buildings.
You’ll be supporting a team of professionals who are pretty nifty with a spanner, a mop, and a paint brush – all of which are equally as important. Let’s face it, none of our customers want a dirty bus that works, or a clean and smart one that doesn’t!
You’ll love supporting, advising, and managing the team on a daily basis to maintain and repair our vehicles which include Scania, Volvo, Alexander Dennis, and Optare.
It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll trust you to ensure vehicles are presented to the high standards that our customers want. This means supporting the Engineering Manager to ensure the health & safety of our team, the quality and efficiency of daily workload, provide training, and much more …so variety will be aplenty! It’s not a desk-based role as you’ll be out in the garage supporting the team; however, as part of the management team, you’ll be involved in quality assurance and work scheduling. We’ll give you support, training, and development wherever you need to be a brilliant Deputy Engineering Manager.
Benefits
1. Free travel for you and a companion on our buses.
2. Training – a dedicated high-level training programme to reinforce your existing skills and give an opportunity to gain a qualification.
3. Varied work as one of the UK’s leading transport operators investing heavily in electric vehicles and depot infrastructure.
4. Job security from being a key worker at the heart of our communities.
5. A safe environment – we provide boots, overalls, and specialist equipment.
6. UK-wide opportunities for transfers to new locations.
7. Career development through developing your technical and management skills.
8. An employee assistance programme to support health and wellbeing.
9. A great working environment with opportunities to make new friends and build inclusive networks.
The recruitment process is simple – you apply with your CV, we’ll have a good read then get you in for an interview and give you a tour of the depot to meet the team, and that’s it!
Sound good so far? Of course, there are a couple of things we need in our prospective Deputy Engineering Managers…
You don’t have to come from a bus background, but you will need to have worked in a related field – such as the truck/light commercial/rail industries in an engineering setting and have a passion for working with an exceptional team of engineers.
You’ll generally be working Monday to Friday with weekends on a rota basis and supporting our team across all shifts will be required.
So if that’s you, and you like what we’re offering, then apply below!
Stagecoach workplace culture is one where everyone can be themselves and where all the differences our people bring to the business are celebrated. We welcome applications from all, irrespective of background, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, beliefs, disability, neurodiversity, sexual orientation, or age.
