Finance Director Hybrid: Remote/London Salary range: £100,000-£120,000 basic options Reporting to: COO About us Duel is a SaaS company on a mission to make Brand Advocacy the industry standard playbook for building brilliant retail brands. It was founded by world record breaking adventurer and former brand ambassador Paul Archer, alongside viral games developer Naio Tsarouchis, and we exist to show there’s a better way to build businesses, to build a better future, proving that caring for people builds brand, which builds long term and exponential profit returns. The Duel Brand Advocacy Platform allows enterprise brands to do just that, scaling how they manage their relationships with thousands of advocates, customers, creators and brand ambassadors. We’re proud today that brands such as Abercrombie Fitch, Charlotte Tilbury, Spanx, Victoria’s Secret and Elemis (to name a few, but not to name some household names that we can’t talk about yet) are doing just that. The Duel team comprises psychologists, brand experts and community builders, combining cutting edge brand expertise, with seasoned SaaS experience. The Role We’re looking for a Finance Director to join the central operations team. Reporting to and working closely with the COO and managing one permanent, part-time member of the finance team. You will be responsible for all aspects of FPA, financial operations, strategic finance, and the overall financial health of the business. This role is ideally suited to someone who has been the first finance hire into a Series A or B startup and built or significantly evolved finance, introducing new processes and a clear understanding of finance to the business and the teams within it. We’re looking for someone who enjoys making the complex understandable, the mundane accessible, and has mastered prioritising the right things at the right time amongst an ever-evolving set of business needs. We’re looking for someone who will… Be a true “business partner” to the Commercial and Operational teams, providing guidance to enable effective and sound allocation of resources. Be a fantastic translator of the complex into the understandable. You’ll excel at translating the various complex financial levers we can pull in a range of scenarios (and the outcomes that will produce) to people without a finance background, to enable them to make the most effective business decision possible for their area. Proactively audit and improve financial governance, processes, and controls across the business, seeking to enhance efficiencies without teams becoming bogged down in policy or process. You’ll use technology where possible to automate and simplify. Proactively and reactively produce flexible models to project long-term growth and failure scenarios and determine the impacting business factors to enable the Executive team to anticipate and make forward-looking decisions for the health of the business. You are an enabler by nature, not a controller. Own all aspects of establishing and maintaining sound financial planning and controls – budgeting, forecasting, pricing, KPI analysis. Support on future financing and strategic business moves. Deeply embed yourself into different business areas to be able to pick up on, formulate, and communicate observations, analysis, and recommendations with the senior leadership for improvements that will lead to cost-reduction, revenue generation and improved operations. Create, refine and automate self-serve reporting dashboards that provide analysis and insight into key KPIs, thus enabling the business leadership to make timely, accurate, and evidence-based decisions. Support on ad-hoc projects as needed. We’d love to hear from you if… You are a technically strong, fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA). You have 4-6 years of FPA experience, with at least 2-3 of those years gained in- startup, scale up or venture capital environments (SaaS preferable). You naturally enjoy being challenged and working outside of your comfort-zone problem solving, and working with unstructured processes and data to create structure and light-weight process. You are experienced at producing, maintaining and evolving financial models for a range of business needs. You are flexible in your approach and enjoy partnering and collaborating, yet have also mastered being self-directed and proactive in how you plan, organise and prioritise the most important things to be working on at any given time when necessary. Some exposure to international (e.g. UK/European/US) accounting practices is advantageous but by no means essential. In-person and remote working balance We have a small HQ in London (Holborn) and a small team of folks on the ground in our NYC office as well. Although our approach to hybrid working is flexible (we don’t mandate specific days in office), priority for this role will be given to candidates based in/near London and who are keen to spend a couple of days a week in a shared space partnering with the COO, Finance team and wider central operations team on ongoing shared projects in the early part of 2025, until the team and our operating cadence is more settled. Why Duel We want to build a remarkable company with remarkable people and a remarkable culture that you will want to shout from the rooftops about. In a relaxed, flexible, and fun environment, the team is driven to making the business a success while enjoying what we do and who we do it with. We also offer a growing benefits package, including Flexible working hours - if you need to fit around childcare or need to work around your life, we understand. Around 32 days of Annual Leave (28 excluding bank holidays and an extended break between Christmas and New Year, when we close the office). On-going training where required. Options scheme for all full-time employees - it’s important to us that everybody owns a part of the company and shares in the benefits of what we build.
