Senior Engineer (HVDC) - Auxiliary Systems / Electrical Building Services
Base Location: Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth.
Salary: Up to £75,000 depending on experience + car/cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role
SSEN Transmission currently have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer, specialising in the Electrical Auxiliary Systems and Building services to join the Offshore Engineering Team to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex HVDC Converter Station Projects.
The role would suit an Experienced Electrical Building Service / Auxiliary System Engineer from either an OEM contractor or consultancy, looking to take the next step into a client-side organisation. Although Power Transmission experience is preferred it is not needed. Candidates with building service experience within data centres, industrial process systems (O&G, Chemical etc), and water industries are encouraged to apply.
You will
- Have experience working on the Transmission Network and an extensive knowledge of HVDC covering Auxiliary Power System design, electrical plant apparatus and its equipment specifications.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of station power auxiliary design, selectivity studies, auxiliary building layout and equipment such as Auxiliary Transformers, MV & LV switchgear, Diesel Generators, UPS, Station Batteries, Motor Control Centre (MCC), AC & DC Distribution Boards, cables and cable management system.
- Review or approve the technical requirements of HVDC Auxiliary system design and equipment.
- Demonstrate experience to work with our Civil Building Designer, HVDC OEM and Tier 1 Contractors to develop, review and approve electrical building services designs and installations for our converter stations, which could include the following;
* Small Power and Lighting
* Cable Containment Design
* Fire Alarm Systems
* Emergency Power Systems
* Security Systems including CCTV
* Telecoms
* Integration of Building Management Systems into HVDC OEM Control System.
- Promote best practice within Electrical discipline through suggested improvements in specifications, technology options and management of technical risks.
You have
- A degree in a relevant engineering subject and preferably have chartered status or be working towards this.
- The ability to technically assess and critically challenge contractor submissions.
- Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload whilst building strong relationships across internal and external stakeholders, distilling key information messages.
- Familiarity with a range of technical solutions used in HVDC / AC Substations.
- Worked in a multi-discipline team, utilising Autodesk Construction Cloud BIM environment to manage and co-ordinate designs, raise and respond to contractor RFI/TQs, clash detection, 3D model development etc.
