As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people. You'll be required to work weekends and bank holidays on a 1 in 7 rota. This is a full time, fixed term contract due to end in January 2026. What it's like to work here: The estate welcomes over 200,000 visitors every year across our access network of 60km of footpaths/bridleways and cycle paths. Making sure this network is in good condition and suitable for our growing local community is a priority for the team. Since 2021 we’ve planted over 250,000 trees in new woodland, wood pasture, orchards and hedgerows. We’re also investing in restoring what we’ve already got, gapping up hedgerows, planting successor trees in the parklands and filling in gaps in orchards. There will be scope to work across all of our habitats and opportunity for further training and professional development. You’ll be working alongside a Countryside Manager, Nature Engagement Officer, 2x Area Rangers, 3x Rangers and a team of approximately 60 volunteers. If you’re looking to develop your career or make a step up from an Assistant Ranger role this would be a great opportunity for you. The roles will report to the Area Rangers within the team. For more information about our property please visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/killerton What you'll be doing: You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task. You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing. You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role Who we're looking for: We’d love to hear from you if you’re: practically experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters hard-working and willing to learn able to work safely, using risk assessments and following guidelines experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates a driver with a full UK driving licence The package: The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart.
