A quick look at the role.
The BIC (Biffa Industrial Cleaning) Manager with flexibility to work nationally across our two depots in Sheffield and Darlington to provide leadership and direction with regards to the day-to-day depot and operational service management and improvement. The post holder will lead a team of highly trained specialists working in confined space areas, utilising heavy machinery across multiple industrial projects. The post holder will drive the desired organic growth to target annualised revenue, whilst maintaining (and improving, where possible), current margins day to day overseeing every aspect of the BIC business unit. The candidate will lead the business unit and have the ability to work with all key stakeholders across the Group as this will be vital in identifying all business opportunities where we can maximise upon operational improvement opportunities.

* Achieve and exceed period, quarterly, annual targets in accordance with all company procedures and codes of conduct.
* Implement the necessary action plans to achieve and exceed the targets.
* Maximise operational and commercial efficiency and utilisation of team / workloads.
* Maximise and improve the retention and contract renewal of the existing customer base through the delivery of excellent customer service and the development of robust customer relationships, working with the Sales Teams to ensure that customers are visited on a regular basis, service levels met and exceed expectation, customer requirements are clearly understood and met, and that all business opportunities are explored.
* Monitor and review performance and KPI’s of BIC business unit on a daily, period and on-going basis.
* Visit customers to review Biffa performance, obtain customer feedback, identify on-going requirements and opportunities and resolve any issues.
* Lead, develop, and motivate the team through effective, regular communication, direction, coaching and training, feedback and review, and continuous guidance and support.
* Ensure that staff are appropriately trained to a competent level prior to carrying out duties unsupervised, and that on-going training requirements are addressed in a timely fashion.
* Actively monitor and manage the business pipeline, forecasting accurately and ensuring that targets are met.
* Any other duties reasonably requested, and which are within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job.
This post is responsible for the effective delivery of the Biffa Industrial Cleaning operational and commercial strategy, maximising business efficiency through effective resource planning and driving a sustainable and viable business operation, actively monitoring, and managing the forecasting and ensuring that targets are met, working with, the business unit business development managers and wider key stakeholders. The post-holder will be responsible for both Sheffield and Darlington operations.
The role holder will have input into the business plan and hold key to the annual budgeting process.
The role holder will support, coach and mentor the wider team within the specialist services business and account management team to ensure best in class solutions are presented in a clear, concise and understandable way.
The BIC Depot manager needs to have an extensive understanding of industrial services / waste industry. Views issues in terms of efficiency, cost, profit, market and added value. Looks for opportunities to add bottom line value, with the ability to detect and manage risk. Numerate and detail conscious. Able to create KPIs and operational metrics and then convert these into action.
Demonstrates a holistic view of issues, events and activities, with a perception of their longer-term impact or wider implications.
The role holder should have an extensive understanding of the industrial services / waste marketplace and industry.
Requirements
Here’s what we require:
* HNC/HND/Degree (Chemistry, Engineering or similar).
* Previous experience working within a technical team.
* Working as operations manager within similar business previously.
* Demonstrable knowledge WM3/ADR.
* Knowledge of environmental compliance issues associated with waste classification, transport, packaging and labelling.
* Knowledge of DISAB / HPWJ systems.
* Knowledge of confined space classifications.
* Effective people coaching skills.
* Proven people management and safety leadership skills.
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
* IT literate – proficient in using Microsoft Office software.
* Effective time management skills.
* Ability to work effectively unsupervised.
* Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues.
* Be commercially focussed with ability to manage P&L’s
* Ability to effectively manage and prioritise workload.
* Shows initiative, to decide appropriate actions to achieve necessary outcomes.
* Ability/willingness to work flexibly if required (e.g. sickness/holiday cover).
* Ability to consider wider business issues.
* Experience of working within a Corporate environment.
* Full, clean UK Driving Licence – willingness to travel within the UK for business meetings and project work at other locations.
