Highway and SUDS Drainage Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Flooding and Coastal Management Team within Bridgend County Borough Council who are looking to employ a Highway and SUDs drainage engineer.
This challenging and varied role within a small team will provide an opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience of all aspects of flood mitigation and drainage approval, by assisting the department with its role as a Lead Local Flood Authority.
You will promote the use of SUDs drainage, approve the drainage solutions for new developments by liaising with the Planning department, and will also have the opportunity to be involved with improvements to the coastal infrastructure.
We are looking for individuals who have an understanding and knowledge of aspects relating to SUDS drainage, flooding and coastal erosion risk management. You will be carrying out duties to review, monitor and maintain drainage infrastructure which is the responsibility of the Department.
You role will include:
Development, management and maintenance of Sustainable Urban Drainage asset database for adopted and non-adopted SUDS systems.
Engage with external bodies to promote the use of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems
Assess and respond to planning department on drainage related development proposals in regard to Planning consents. In particular review and encourage the use of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems.
To develop and update the asset management database under the Flood & Water Management Act duties
To assist in developing and delivering flood management/coastal protection initiatives and projects and to discharge the Authorities Flood/Costal/Land Drainage Functions under the statutory acts
Identify, monitor and supervise the repairs to Highway Network Department asset and to assist in the control & supervision of flood management and coastal projects
The applicant must have experience in undertaking the specific duties identified in this pack. Must be able to work within a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, local members, external companies and members of the public.
The ability to greet customers through the medium of Welsh is a requirement for this post.
