Clinician (Consultant Psychiatrist) - Practitioner Health
We are currently looking to expand our clinical workforce. We are seeking applications from consultant psychiatrists with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in specialty. Additional experience in managing substance misuse/addiction would be beneficial. We are asking for a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week.
Please note we have a strict three-year gap between accessing the service as a patient and working within the service as a clinician. We understand that PH work can be challenging and want to ensure people have enough time to focus on their own recovery before taking on the issues of others.

Main duties of the job
As a key member of the NHS PH team, you will provide care to PH patients, participating as a core team member carrying out triage for new contacts and referrals, assessments of new patients, ongoing case management and liaison with other providers who might be involved in the care of the patients. You will be responsible for managing a caseload of sick health professionals, assessing risk and providing holistic support to manage their programme of care. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes GPs, specialist nurses, psychiatrists, and therapists.

Job responsibilities
Job Summary
The key job functions are threefold as described in the Health for Health Professionals HHP Competency Framework.
Clinical will include the roles of assessment, treatment, care planning, referral and signposting, specialist prescribing and monitoring and may include:
* First contact care and assessment for patients referred for care
* Participation in unplanned care rota to manage urgent requests during office hours
* Continuing care and referral to a range of clinical interventions as appropriate, such as CBT and group therapy
* Referral for specialist assessment or treatment
* Assessment of particular physical health needs
* Specific substance misuse treatment and therapeutic monitoring
* Case management
* Management of specific mental health disorders
* Writing relevant reports and liaison with regulators
Education and Liaison may include:
* Providing advice and liaison to other practitioners through non-face to face or face to face contact, in the management of those problems/conditions
* Providing support and training to other health and related practitioners in areas related to prevention, identification, brief intervention of mental health/addiction problems in health professionals, self-care and wellbeing
* Participating in education and training activities
* Liaising with other practitioners involved in the care of practitioner patients
* Appraisal tailored to the needs of a non-working clinician
Leadership/Service Development - roles will include ensuring dissemination of knowledge, promoting PH services and advising on practitioner health issues and may include:
* Involvement with research into issues relating to practitioner-patients and the effectiveness of clinical interventions
* Developing links with other professional groups and support services for the effective shared care of practitioner patients
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered with the GMC; hold a license to practice (ideally in current clinical practice)
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Additional clinical training/qualifications in managing Substance Misuse.
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of postgraduate study in substance misuse or other specialist psychiatric experience in a related field e.g. eating disorders
Experience
* Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in specialty
* Wide range of experience of specialist and sub-specialist experience in mental health and/or addiction
* Empathy and an understanding of distressed health and care professionals many of whom will have been reluctant to contact the service
* Experience of producing reports, assessments and presentations involving highly complex information.
* Experience of providing, receiving and processing sensitive or contentious information and communicating this effectively.
* Experience of building and developing effective working relationships and networking with senior professionals
* Experience of working with sick health professionals
