Controls Engineer / PLC Software Engineer

Salary: cGBP70k (neg dep exp) + benefits
Our client has been established for almost 20 years and is recognized as a leading provider of all aspects of hardware and software design through to robot systems integration and commissioning on a range of bespoke automation solutions for a diverse range of clients throughout the UK. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Controls Engineer / PLC Software Engineer to complement their highly successful software team.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage individual projects at an engineering and client level in line with lead times and standards required.
2. Develop technical documents in line with client requirements and industry standards using technical features, diagrams, and language.
3. Develop bespoke software routines and functions to allow machines/systems to function safely and controlled.
4. Implement safety software for systems where safety controllers are to be used in accordance with BS-EN13849.
5. Ensure all systems and bespoke software are correctly tested and quality checked prior to shipping and commissioning.
6. Commission bespoke systems at Head Office and customer sites within the UK (with very occasional overseas visits required).
7. Work away as required (up to 70% of the year on-site and 30% in the office near Telford) with all costs covered by the client.
8. Undertake additional training as required and work both autonomously and as part of a team, ensuring adherence to all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
Qualifications:
1. Demonstrate comprehensive skills and experience in the use of Siemens TIA portal platform AND/OR Allen Bradley Studio 5000.
2. Solid understanding of PLC programming using ladder code, including the correct use of Functions blocks/add-on instructions, Function calls/routines, and Data blocks (Siemens).
3. Proven skills in understanding HMI screen development and demonstrable experience in On-site commissioning of industrial automation, including Conveyor control, Machine interfaces, and machine sequential logic.
4. Experience with Safety controllers, Drive configuration, and motor control.
5. Strong understanding of Profinet, Ethernet, and Profibus industrial communications systems.
6. Hold a full UK driving licence.
7. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written for technical reports) and customer-facing skills at all levels.
8. Ability to work away within the UK on sites as part of a controls team under the direction of the control systems project management.
9. Qualified to HND or above in a relevant electrical, electromechanical, or controls qualification.
10. At least 3 years previous experience in the above activities.
