Job Details
The Young People's Team is a busy and dynamic team supporting young people across a number of areas of practice, including young people leaving care, young people in conflict with the law, young people displaying sexually harmful behaviour, and unaccompanied children seeking asylum.
The team works collaboratively with a wide range of partners including health, police, education, further/higher education providers, housing, voluntary organisations, and adult services to support young people at key points of transition or where there is a complexity of risk and need.
The team comprises four Support Workers, seven Social Workers, eleven Social Work Assistants, three Senior Practitioners, a Senior Mental Health Nurse, and a Team Manager, with extended support from a dedicated Housing Officer in the Specific Needs Housing Team. The Young People's Team is also connected with the Fife House Project Team.
The Role
This is a full-time permanent position based at Fife House and working across Fife. As a Senior Practitioner within the Young People's Team, you will support the Team Manager in providing visible leadership and support to social work staff in the following areas of practice:
* Young people leaving care
* Young people in conflict with the law
* Children and young people displaying sexually harmful behaviour
* Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children
As a Senior Practitioner, you will lead on an area of practice and support strategic development as part of a team action plan. You will carry a caseload, supporting young people where there is a high degree of assessed risk and need.
You will be responsible for supporting the supervision of social work staff within the team and developing the skills, experience, and knowledge of practitioners through personal development planning.
The Senior Practitioner will support practitioners within the team to navigate complex scenarios and will, where appropriate, chair risk management meetings, pathway reviews, and other planning meetings relevant to a young person's needs.
The Senior Practitioner will carry a smaller caseload where there is evidence of complex risk and need, requiring careful assessment and planning.
The Senior Practitioner will support quality assurance in the team, assisting with the recording and capture of data to support service improvement.
All positions will involve lone working and require the ability to travel throughout Fife.
The Person
* Considerable experience in a relevant setting, with at least two years post-qualifying experience.
* A Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) qualification is essential, as is registration with the Scottish Social Services Council.
* Must have a post-qualifying award or willingness to work towards this within two years (MHO, Practice Learning, CP Cert, Supervision, etc.).
* Knowledge and experience of using comprehensive assessment tools would be advantageous but not essential.
* Sound knowledge and experience of working with families in crisis, assessing risk, proportionate decision-making, and safety planning.
* Experience of multi-agency partnership working to safeguard and protect children.
* Ability to work autonomously, remaining calm and confident in difficult situations.
* Experience of working with young people in conflict with the law, young people leaving care, or young people seeking asylum.
* Knowledge and understanding of both National and Fife Council Child and Adult Protection guidelines and information-sharing protocols.
* Knowledge of, and skills in, using IT and basic audio-visual technology and/or enthusiasm for developing these.
* Organisational skills, ability to manage and prioritise workload, experience of making effective decisions.
* Experience of supervising or supporting the development of other professionals.
* Ability to evidence continuous professional development.
* Ability to be innovative and creative.
* Ability to travel throughout Fife.
Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration.
