St Johns Hospice is a 10 bedded in patient unit based in Balby, Doncaster. Specialist palliative care services at St Johns Hospice provide complex symptom management, psychological support and end of life care to patients and their families within a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment.
We are seeking a Nursing assistant with formal experience of working within a care environment; you should be passionate about providing high quality care and support and want to make a difference to our patients and their families at a difficult time in their lives.
As one of our dedicated nursing team you will be a highly motivated and compassionate person with empathy and understanding of issues encountered by patients with palliative care needs. You will work alongside our trained nursing staff as part of our In-Patient Unit team and also as part of the wider multidisciplinary team
Recent experience in a health /social care setting is essential, along with some experience in caring for patients with palliative care needs. Sound communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this post, as is the ability to work as part of a team with the ability to use your initiative to support the wider nursing team .
The Hospice does offer a long day shift pattern.
Training will be provided to enable the Post holder to work with clients with complex and intensive needs on an individual basis. This may include using a range of medical / nursing equipment to optimise the patients’ health, well being and independence.
Contributes to the assessment, implementation and delivery of individualised evidence-based care.
Provide feedback of current patient / service user status to appropriate members of the professional team.
Assist in the promotion and maintenance of individual patient / service user activities of daily living.
Assist the relevant professional during assessment / treatment / intervention where required.
Support the patient / service user to make use of available services and facilities.
Following Health and Safety regulations, promote a safe environment.
Contribute and participate within the Clinical Governance framework by attending team and unit meetings. Where required, to act as link person (acts as nominated representative for the team, attends meetings and feedback to colleagues in the team) eg Health & Safety, Infection Control and involvement with audit.
Report all accidents, incidents / untoward incidents as per policy.
Awareness of and adherence to all Trust polices and procedures
Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with Trust policies and national guidelines.
