Buckhurst Hill, Loughton and Chigwell Primary Care Network is seeking an experienced and ARTP (Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology) accredited spirometry technician/nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The role is offered on a bank/locum basis. The successful candidate will perform high-quality spirometry testing, support respiratory health assessments, and ensure compliance with current clinical and professional standards. Main duties include: Conduct accurate and high-quality spirometry tests according to ARTP standards. Ensure appropriate patient preparation, including pre-test instructions and assessment of contraindications. Calibrate and maintain spirometry equipment as per manufacturer guidelines and ARTP protocols. Provide clear explanations to patients regarding the purpose and process of spirometry testing. Support patients in achieving optimal test performance through encouragement and guidance. Maintain a calm and professional demeanour to reassure anxious patients. Ensure all spirometry procedures comply with ARTP accreditation guidelines. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in line with GDPR and other relevant regulations. Participate in quality assurance programmes to uphold the highest standards of spirometry testing. Perform routine checks and troubleshooting of spirometry equipment to ensure functionality. Liaise with suppliers or technical teams for equipment repairs and servicing as needed. About the Candidate You will have the following qualifications, skills and experience: Essential : ARTP accredited qualification in spirometry testing. Relevant healthcare qualification (e.g., HCA, Registered Nurse, Respiratory Technician). Proven experience in conducting spirometry in a clinical setting. Strong understanding of respiratory health and associated conditions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in testing and reporting. Empathy and patient-centred approach. Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively. Desirable: Experience working in primary care, occupational health, or respiratory clinics. Additional training or qualifications in respiratory care or pulmonary function testing.
