Job Title: Quality Engineer
Department: Quality
Reports To: Quality Manager
Purpose of Post
The Quality Engineer will investigate, evaluate, and resolve quality problems by conducting defect investigations, analysing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects. The QE will lead and conduct containment activity, maintaining traceability of actions and delegating accordingly, to ensure the swift containment of non-conformances, root cause analysis and effective corrective action on nonconforming product issues. Additionally, frequent interaction and status reporting to internal and external customers is required.
Key Tasks
1. Perform investigation of production failures
2. Analysis of production data and reports to identify opportunities for improvement and prevent reoccurrence of issues
3. Support and work with SQA to manage quality issues in the supply chain.
4. Generate weekly/monthly reports for management including analysing production reject trends, scrap cost and investigation updates
5. Follow NCRs through to implementation of Corrective Actions and closure
6. Respond to customer complaints, putting in place containment actions, full analysis, poka-yokes and implementing countermeasures.
7. Ensure Quality Technicians' checks, and daily activities are focused on Quality Assurance and the prevention of reoccurring issues
8. Identify any operator training needs required to meet WMP/quality standards. Where relevant, conduct and record the training.
9. Be the main point of contact in the designated area for quality and ensure that quality standards are consistently met.
10. Ensure that tools are calibrated within an agreed schedule.
11. Train others in all aspects of the quality system and application of procedures
12. Conduct internal QMS, Safety Critical/process audits to ISO:9001 and internal documentation
13. Participate in external and third-party audits
14. Carry out various inspection and testing to a defined standard
15. Identify and diagnose defects / faults when they occur
16. Validate any rework of identified defects or uncompleted work after correction.
17. Ensure that all relevant paperwork and reports are completed accurately and on-time
18. Ability to read and understand technical manuals, drawings
19. Ability to use computer systems such as office and app-based software
20. Work alongside the managers and operators to create a teamwork environment to promote best practices for Quality
21. Be a competent practical worker, and ensure safe efficient use of all hand tools
Competencies
1. Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, SPC, root cause analysis).
2. Understand manufacturing quality management environment.
3. Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation generation.
4. Strong working knowledge of mechanical drawing interpretation and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
5. Strong working knowledge of Failure Analysis, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective/ Preventative Actions.
6. Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and or ISO/TS 16949/ IATF 16949 requirements, APQP, Quality Systems requirements or comparable industry standards.
7. Proven, practical problem solver.
8. Supporting production processes, developing Quality Plans, and RCCA facilitation.
9. Lean Six Sigma knowledge and/or training, greenbelt preferred but not required
