As a Assistant Cook for Sodexo at Derwent Primary School, Bedfordshire, you will assist the Cook Manager to oversee all aspects of the food and beverage operations as well as the finances for your school's kitchen. You will support the Cook Manager in ensuring you showcase what the kitchen supplies, presenting it in the most eye-catching way possible, ensuring we are offering the best service possible. As well as this, you will not work unsociable hours and you will get public holidays off including Christmas!

What you do:
* Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards which may include breakfast, morning break, lunch, and hospitality.
* Adhere to all company compliance (such as Food safety, Health and Safety, Allergen awareness, COSHH, and HACCP regulations).
* Carry out craft/skills training for catering staff.
* Ensure that all service counters and food are presented to company standards.
* Guarantee that each dish served is portioned according to business requirements.
* Complete daily/weekly cleaning duties as instructed by the line manager, including all food preparation and storage areas, and all catering communal areas. Removal of waste from the catering area.
* Deliver exceptionally high standards in customer service, cleanliness, tidiness, and other operational activity.
What you bring:
* A minimum of 1 year of experience in hands-on cooking; training on Food Hygiene and Health & Safety will be provided.
* Expertise in cooking on a large scale, anywhere between 100 - 1300 students.
* Experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
* Experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
* Aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy kitchen environment.
* Professional demeanor, leading by example and maintaining a positive outlook.
* Basic food handling skills certification.

**Equated pay (sometimes known as spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just receiving pay during the months that you work and none during the school closures/non-working weeks.
