Job Description
A great opportunity has arisen for a senior mechanical engineer to join a leading manufacturing company who supply world-class products to various industries including Oil & Gas / Offshore.
Job Responsibilities:
* Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.
* Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
* Generate ideas for developments and new products.
* Be responsible for small projects or sub-sections of larger projects.
* Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001.
* Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
* Provide offsite engineering support for new products.
* Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
* Provide customer support.
* Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.
* Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
* Work within the requirements of company procedures and international regulations.
* Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
* Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.
* Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.
* Provide Mechanical Engineering leadership and supervision.
* Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function.
* Provide prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions.
* Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.
Beneficial Skills / Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject.
* Structural analysis, scoping calculations and hand calculations.
* Finite Element Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation.
* Mechanisms, kinematics and power transmission.
* Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding and NDT requirements.
* Good theoretical understanding of material science for subsea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects.
* Oil, gas and water hydraulics, including sealing systems, e.g. O-rings, seals, hydraulic fittings etc.
* Assembly methods and maintenance.
* Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
* Ergonomics.
* Completing and checking designs and documentation.
* Approving designs and documentation.
* Tolerancing, limits and fits.
* Drawing layout and symbols.
* Safety conscious, attentive to QHSE policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems).
* Sound engineering knowledge.
* Cost consciousness.
* Technical drawing competence as defined above.
* Technical leadership and motivational skills.
* Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team or individually on projects.
* Attention to detail and effective checking regime.
* Software skills – Microsoft Office Suite, 2D and 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD/DraftSight, SolidWorks).
Additional Details:
* 37 hours per week – 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday (flexi-time is available).
* 25 days holidays and 8 bank holidays.
* Based onsite – no hybrid working.
