We are looking for a Publishing Officer to join the Journal Office at the House of Lords. This is an exciting position where you will publish key procedural publications daily and work on projects to produce and publish various information and guidance documents for the use of members of the House, staff, the media, and the public. Youll also get the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the Journal Office, attaining valuable frontline experience of the core work of Parliament, including advising and assisting members, and analysing procedural information. This will provide you with opportunities to develop new skills and continuous career development. This role does require late working on a weekly basis and a late duty allowance is paid to reflect this. You will also be required to work on-site at Parliament, with some flexible remote working in line with business needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who enjoys working in a varied role and working with multiple teams, and who possesses excellent communication and IT skills that they can apply to a publishing environment. Youll be accountable for Provide document-originating offices across the House with specialist operational support in the preparation of documents for publication, maintaining an awareness of their specific purposes, audiences and formats. Design, lay out and typeset documents for publication both online and in print using various applications and systems, including Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. Assist other teams in formatting documents for publication, including by advising on best practice and offering ideas on design and presentation. Review existing publications, putting forward options for improvement and providing technical advice on production processes. Maintain data in the relevant business systems, including LegislationHub and the parliamentary website/intranet content management systems, ensuring that all published content is well-presented, accurate and complete. Take responsibility, with colleagues, for providing cover on the Teams late rota on a weekly basis, ensuring that evening duties are completed and daily publications are available online for the following days business. Support resilience across the wider Journal Office by developing new skills and working regularly in other areas, including frontline procedural teams, at the same grade. Communication and Team Work including excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to be flexible and adaptable within a team. Professionalism including being well-organised with the ability to prioritise and multi-task and ability to learn quickly and exercise initiative. IT Competent with experience of producing bespoke publications and content, preferably in both print and digital media, with an awareness of the differences between online and print requirements. Customer Service Skills with ability to manage expectations and relationships, and to offer opinions and influence colleagues and stakeholders to achieve the highest standards. It would be even better if you had A sound working knowledge of parliamentary procedural publications. Experience of using Adobe InDesign.
