Background to the Appointment
Wayland Additive is an ambitious West Yorkshire based technology company making industrial metal 3D printers. Over the past 6 years the company has developed and launched its first product, Calibur3, with initial sales in North America and Europe. The company is now looking to grow sales and increase its customer base, to capitalize on strong interest in the product.
Wayland has a detailed roadmap of technology and product development extending into the future and aggressive growth plans. Creating a new manufacturing company ‘from the ground up’ requires tenacity and an eagerness to learn. As with any small company, flexibility and adaptability will be essential attributes to make a success of the position on offer.
The Job
Objectives
1. Achieve sales in the European market – particularly to industrial customers with opportunity for repeat sales
2. Build pipeline to grow sales further in 2025+
3. Develop, execute, and oversee a business strategy that prioritises growth and positive customer experience
4. Maintain positive professional relationships with clients
5. Implement financial strategies to improve sales revenue
6. Monitor sales performance and progress to align with business objectives
Responsibilities
1. Progress existing opportunities by championing your customers within Wayland and responding to their needs.
2. Maintain and build relationships with customers through regular contact and visits.
3. Effectively communicate customer needs to internal Product / R&D team through presentations and meeting reports.
4. Effective networking to access decision makers and new leads.
5. Conduct high-level industry research to develop effective sales solutions
6. Review sales contracts to ensure they meet legal and corporate guidelines
Skills / Experience
The successful candidate will have the following experience skills/abilities:
1. Recent experience in start-up and scale-up businesses desirable
2. High level of inter-personal skills to build and facilitate strong working relationships at all levels across the business
3. High levels of personal confidence with the ability to influence stakeholders within and outside the business
4. Proven ability to work calmly under pressure and to deliver to timeframes
5. A confident and effective problem solver

The following personal characteristics will be helpful in the role:
1. Engaging and trustworthy. While this is a very technical sale, personal relationships with your customer are key. They could be betting their career on buying our product, so they need to trust you. You need to have the gravitas to carry the sale
2. Tenacity / persistence. A long sales cycle and high sales price means you need to stick at it for the long run
3. Creative. A lot of our potential customers don’t know they need to buy our machine. You need to figure out who they are and go find them
4. Resourceful. We are a startup, we don’t have tons of cash. You will be responsible for making your budget work hard for you
5. Technical ability. This is a complicated technology space. You need to be able to understand challenging technology and explain it to others
