The post holder will be expected to perform a wide range of duties covering all aspects of maintenance applicable to the role. They will be required to carry out necessary repair works. The post holder will liaise with clinical and non-clinical teams when carrying out work to ensure patient and staff safety and that infection control is not compromised.
Perform unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work that does not require the attention of a fully qualified craftsperson, related to their training.
Learn minor repair work related to other trades (to be agreed) as required.
Use all relevant tools safely and responsibly.
To undertake basic training for new practices, procedures, and equipment.
To assist colleagues on new work and repairs.
To perform other routine tasks including labouring as and when required.
To carry out all duties of Store person when requested, using computerised stock control system.
Communication and Relationship skills
To liaise with the Mechanical Supervisor regarding plant or equipment failures, or deviations to regulations, and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
At all times when on duty, to carry Trust communication devices such as mobile telephones, two-way radios or pagers to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.
To receive and communicate technical and non-technical information to a range of staff.
Analytical and Judgement skills
To assist colleagues on new work and repairs.
To assist where necessary, in the maintenance of hospital installations.
To carryout PPM checks on an ongoing monthly basis, reporting all defects.
To perform routine tasks including labouring as and when required.
Diagnose problems safely and make decisions to carry out repairs/maintenance. This may include considering a range of options.
Planning and Organising skills
To undertake all work activities as requested by the Mechanical Supervisor/Estates Officer.
To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes.
Physical Skills
Will use a range of tools and equipment, some of which require accuracy and hand/eye coordination.

Qualifications
*Basic education to GCSE level in Maths and English or post Education training in a relevant field.
*City & Guilds of London Institute Certificate in a relevant Plumbing/Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering discipline. OR
An equivalent qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in a relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering discipline. OR
BTEC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering. OR Relevant Experience.
Experience
*Experience of working in mechanical engineering or building services installation, alteration, maintenance or fault finding.
*Previous mechanical knowledge to enable basic isolation of water services and mechanical systems.
*Previous mechanical experience in a similar/ same role.
*Basic knowledge in mechanical principles.
*Knowledge of Health and Safety rules/ legislation.
Additional Criteria
*Good Verbal and written communication skills.
*Work effectively as a team member.
*Ability to cover other functions for short periods of time (stores).
*Ability to work to deadlines.
*Basic IT skills.
*Physically demanding role requiring manual handling of loads, extremes of temperature and the ability to work at heights or in confined spaces.
*Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Confidence to work with staff at all levels and professional backgrounds.
*Ability to work using own initiative.
*Able to organise and prioritise workload depending on demand.
