BAND 7 Senior Clinical Educator (Midwifery).
Fixed Term - 6 months
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, extremely motivated, resourceful Registered Midwife with established clinical, IT, leadership and teaching experience to join our senior team. An additional registered Nursing qualification would be an advantage but not essential. Working as part of the senior team, the post holder will contribute to the future development of multidisciplinary training within the Maternity and Women’s service through participation with development initiatives, adherence to national requirements of the NHS Resolutions 3 year maternity incentive scheme and involvement in the wider CSU mandatory training compliance.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Clinical Educator, you will have excellent clinical and communication skills, an ability to inspire and support staff and work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the education programme. You will also collaborate with external education agencies in relation to nationally mandated education. Planning training requirements for practitioners from other specialities such as paediatrics and theatres who link to maternity care, to meet the complex requirements of the NHSR maternity incentive scheme and ensure the safety needs of women and their babies remain the main focus of services.
The applicant will have extensive experience as a Band 6 educator and proven teaching and leadership capabilities. You will have undertaken post registration education and be a certified PROMPT trainer, Clinical skills facilitator, NLS certified practitioner with an expectation you will become a NLS instructor, and MELVIS trainer for the wider CSU. The applicant will be committed to the continued learning of additional skills to enhance the provision for women and staff safety training, and ideally have undertaken a leadership programme.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The job holder will play a lead role in ensuring the development of clinical staff both registered, unregistered and medical. The job holder will enable the development of clinical practice mentors, assessors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and Trustwide continuous professional development activities. The post holder will be responsible for leading clinical education and associated resources in their designated clinical areas. The successful candidate will provide a high standard of education.
The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement. The job holder will support mentors and assessors and ensure clinical professional development for preceptorship and other role developments. They will enhance the quality of care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. The post holder may be line managing a junior clinical educator depending on the clinical service unit.
You will be expected to lead the midwifery/nursing contribution to service development, ensuring the pursuit of excellence in care. The job holder will lead on the implementation and monitoring of adherence to relevant clinical guidelines, audit and research. They will function as a role model for registered and unregistered staff within the clinical area and Trust, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and cross city working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.
The role of the Senior Clinical Educator Post is essential for the organisation to ensure midwives, nurses and ODPs work within the governing standards set by professional and regulatory bodies. The job holder will support, educate and develop registered and unregistered staff in their clinical role and competency, to meet the standards required to deliver high quality evidence based care for service users.
The job holder will deliver education on a Trust wide basis which impacts on a wide range of clinical areas and departments. The post holder will contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of education and training of registered and unregistered workforce. They will work in collaboration with the senior management team to maintain and project the vision and objectives of the service and ensure that they are embedded in practice. They will identify and celebrate good practice and share with local and Trust teams. The post holder will lead by example will be responsible for disseminating good practice and actively challenging assumptions, practice and performance where appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
* Degree level Registered Midwife (RM for midwifery areas +/- Registered Nurse RN Adult for adult clinical areas)
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Masters degree or post graduate level development equivalent to a masters.
* Neonatal Life Support NLS provider certificate.
Desirable
* Masters degree or post graduate level development equivalent to a masters.
Experience
Essential
* PROMPT obstetric emergencies training facilitator.
* Melvis trainer
* Significant experience in a junior leadership role eg Band 6 or equivalent.
* Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues
* Support speciality specific knowledge, skills and competency in midwifery practice eg Cardiotocograph CTG and Newborn Life Support NLS/neonatal resuscitation.
* Clinical Experience within the specialty.
* Experience of clinical audit and standard setting
* Significant experience within a leadership position
* Understanding of performance management strategies
* Evidence of service development and or facilitation of change management
