As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clinical team by ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines. You will work closely with GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
* Conducting medication reviews and providing advice on the safe and effective use of medicines.
* Acting as a Technical Pharmacy Advisor to Practice Clinicians.
* Supporting the management of repeat prescriptions and ensuring timely and accurate production.
* Assisting with the implementation of prescribing policies and guidelines.
* Providing support for the management of long-term conditions and chronic disease management.
* Participating in audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
* Offering advice and support to patients on medication-related queries.
About us
The role is based at The Lennard Surgery in Bedminster Down, Bristol. We are part of a group of six practices making up SWIFT PCN. You will be joining a team consisting of four partners, six Salaried GPs, a Clinical Pharmacist, two Practice Nurses, two Healthcare Assistants, and a Student Nurse Associate. We are a training practice and regularly host trainee Doctors and Medical School students.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at The Lennard Surgery. The successful candidate will support our pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions, ensuring accuracy. As a key member of the pharmacy team, the technician will provide excellent customer service, manage patient records, and comply with all relevant UK regulations.
* Training support for the prescription clerk team.
* Carry out medicines reconciliation from hospital discharge summaries, outpatient letters, or other letters in accordance with practice protocols and update patients' medical records and prescriptions.
* Carry out medication switches, dose optimisation, and medicines synchronisation to ensure safe and cost-effective prescribing.
* Initiate repeat prescribing (eRD) for appropriate patients.
* Provide advice to GPs, staff, and patients in changes to prescribing to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
* Participate in medication audits and quality improvement projects.
* Support the practice to meet QOF indicators.
* Support patient safety with high-risk drug monitoring and other safety scorecard indicators.
* Respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner, referring to the appropriate clinician as necessary.
* Advise on the sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.
* Act as a link between practice and local community and hospital pharmacy services.
* Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Hold a recognised qualification in pharmaceutical sciences (BTEC / NVQ3 or equivalent).
* Registered technician with General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
* Understanding of prescribing and Medicines Management issues.
* Understanding of working effectively within multidisciplinary groups.
* Dealing with the public/patients.
Skills
* Proven communication and interpersonal skills including dealing with patients and carers.
* Able to plan and work independently and manage competing priorities.
* On-going commitment to continuing professional development to maintain theoretical and practical knowledge.
* Good verbal and written communication.
* Able to respond to change and apply new developments without difficulty.
