The role:
PMC designs & manufactures the best speakers in the world. We are high-end audio product specialists, designing for world leading recording studios as well as HiFi connoisseurs. We are looking to recruit a uniquely skilled Audio Electronics Engineer with a passion for design and audio fidelity to become a key member of the development team.
As an Audio Electronics Engineer you will be responsible for a range of product development tasks, working within our Research & Development team to take projects all the way from concept to manufacture. We are seeking an engineer with demonstrable experience delivering audio product designs on-budget and on-schedule, with a comprehensive knowledge of the key areas of electronic design relevant to our products – schematic capture & PCB layout, EMC, high-performance analogue & digital audio electronics design, embedded systems & firmware development. Although the role is focused primarily on audio electronics, there is also an opportunity to develop skills in electroacoustics, loudspeaker design, and mechanical design.
A successful candidate will display excellent creative problem-solving skills, a passion for engineering, and the determination to uphold the principles of quality that PMC’s reputation is built upon.
Responsibilities:
1. Design & develop audio electronics products from concept to product launch:
– Analogue & digital circuit design
– Multi-layer PCB layout
– Microcontroller firmware development
– EMC & Certifications
2. Validate prototypes through both subjective listening tests and objective measurement techniques in a rigorous, controlled and repeatable manner.
3. Ensure projects are delivered on budget through accurate calculation of BOM costs and management of project schedule.
4. Contribute to manufacturing documentation such as build guides and test processes.
5. Produce technical reports on areas of research, testing and component analysis.
6. Develop thorough end-of-line test & measurement procedures to ensure product quality & reliability.
7. Communicate with external suppliers to source and develop parts and components.
Essential requirements:
1. A passion for audio and for delivering incredible products.
2. Education to Bachelor’s Degree level (or equiv.) in a relevant engineering discipline.
3. 3 years industry experience.
4. Experience in at least 2 of the 3 following areas:
– Audio electronics hardware design, including analogue filtering and high-performance ADC/DACs
– Embedded systems design & microcontroller firmware development (in C/C++, ideally on STM32)
– Digital signal processing, ideally using Analog Devices SigmaDSP or SHARC processors.
5. Surface-mount soldering.
6. Capable of managing project budgets, schedules & BOM costs with a good sense of prioritisation.
7. Clear, effective communication.
8. Excellent analytical skills and a desire to complete tasks in a thorough, rigorous manner with a high attention to detail.
9. Highly motivated and self-sufficient, with the ability to work independently or within a team.
10. Full UK driving license.
Desirable additional attributes:
1. Experience in Apache NuttX.
2. Knowledge of 3D modelling and the ability to produce manufacturing drawings.
3. Experience with audio test & measurement systems.
Hours & location:
Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 5.30pm
Friday 8.30am – 2pm
Based at our Biggleswade, Beds office, with occasional travel to our Luton manufacturing site.
After successful completion of probation period, the role can be carried out with 1 day a week working from home. This provision will be subject to the requirements of the work and during busy periods you will be required to be in the office 5 days a week.
