The Estates Department at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and optimal functioning of the expansive infrastructure of a large-scale scientific facility. Tasked with managing the facility's physical assets, of which there are over 80 buildings of differing ages, the department meticulously maintains and upgrades laboratories, research spaces, and cutting-edge equipment to support the institution's scientific endeavours.
As the Digital Assets Technician, you will play a crucial role in the Estates Department, contributing to the efficient management of records and the transition from traditional paper-based systems to streamlined electronic databases. Your primary responsibility will involve overseeing existing records related to various building services, facilitating the organization of information, and supporting the Estates Team in the transition to a more sustainable and accessible digital format. In this dynamic role, attention to detail, technical proficiency, and a proactive approach are essential. Your efforts will contribute to the optimization of data retrieval processes, ensuring that historical information, drawings, and project files are readily available for the team's reference. About the role and a summary of key duties & responsibilities
STFC as a scientific campus dates back to the 1950s while our newest opened in 2024. While the newest buildings incorporate ISO19560 in their document management, our older buildings do not. The focus of this position will be to assist in creating building manuals and document libraries to achieve a defined level of ISO19560 to better inform the management and maintenance of these buildings through their remaining lifecycle. The key activities associated with this role include:
* Organise and maintain comprehensive records of building services, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
* Assist in establishing and maintaining a logical and efficient folder structure for both digital and physical records.
* Streamline data retrieval processes to enhance the team's access to critical information.
* Facilitate the conversion of old paper records into electronic formats, utilising CAD software and other relevant tools.
* Work collaboratively with the Estates Team to provide support in various administrative and organizational tasks related to records and CAD management.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will undertake professional development and training through a mixture of online and in-person teaching with The Chartered Institute of Building.
Towards the end of the apprenticeship duration there is an End Point Assessment which includes a knowledge test, portfolio-based interview and project/improvement presentation.

In order to apply for this role, we are looking for the following:
Key - (S) will be measured at shortlisting, (I) will be measured at interview, (S&I) is both.
Essential:
* Achieved or predicted to achieve 2 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications) (S)
* One or more A Levels (S)
* An interest in technical drawings and general buildings information (S&I)
* Good level of attention to details (S&I)
* Understand the need for document control (I)
* Experience of using Microsoft Office; including working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (S)
Desirable:
* Previous experience within Construction/Facilities Management industry (S&I)
* Familiar with using AutoCAD software (S&I)
