Role responsibilities
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and delivering a range of regional active travel infrastructure projects, working as part of a national multi-disciplinary team, to enhance active travel project delivery across urban and rural settings.
1. Develop the concept, detailed designs, CAD drawings and construction information for active travel infrastructure projects by following the appropriate design standards, legislation and guidance such as ATAG, DMRB, WelTAG, MCHW, Inclusive Mobility, MfS and MfS2 to create active travel projects that meet the Client’s requirements.
2. Support and advocate Highway Authority, Corporate Joint Committee and TfW led active travel project designs that balance local needs and constraints with technical approaches and compliance, by providing design review services and liaising with clients' officers on schemes to provide a high quality stakeholder function, delivering impactful street design and active travel outcomes.
3. Develop and maintain sensitive relationships with stakeholders, by leading creative, collaborative and compassionate engagement processes to manage reputational risks to TfW and by extension Welsh Government, as well as to manage project, partner and place specific risks.
4. Support further development of the Active Travel Act Guidance by gathering, sharing and applying best practice from projects across the TfW team, Strategic Road Network (SRN) and local authority partners to improve the quality, cost and effectiveness of the active travel infrastructure in Wales.
Who we’re looking for
5. Degree in Civil Engineering or associated discipline or demonstrate equivalent experience.
6. Demonstrable experience of working within a technical design team environment.
7. Demonstrable experience of using design software such as AutoCAD, preferably Civils 3D.
8. Knowledge and experience of Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
9. Experience of working with construction forms of Contract (NEC .
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
